- This article is about the account level in the tiered Free-to-Play system introduced in Issue 21. For the accolade badge, see V.I.P. Badge.
Overview
VIP Players are subscribed accounts in good standing. Any form of subscription counts for VIP status, including monthly payments, paying for blocks of time, and free months included in box sets. VIP Players get 400 Paragon Points for free each month they are subscribed, to make purchases from the Paragon Market. VIP Players have little restriction within the game, especially long-time subscribers, as the Paragon Rewards Program awards a lot of the unlockable content for free over time. Additionally, any player who had an account prior to the release of City of Heroes Freedom still has access to any Veteran Rewards they may have accrued.
VIP Players that unsubscribe for any reason are downgraded into Premium Players, and must adhere to any restrictions placed on them due to their new designation, although any purchased or rewarded unlockable piece is still available even if normally restricted from Premium Players (e.g. purchased character slots, costumes or powers awarded through Veteran Rewards or Paragon Rewards).
Nicknames include veeps and elites.
Subscriptions
Subscribing players are given several monthly rewards for maintaining an account. For example, let's use an account whose renewal date is October 5.
- Server Transfers: one server transfer per month is awarded on the first of the month (i.e. October 1)
- These server transfers stack with themselves and any purchased server transfers.
- Paragon Points: 400 Paragon Points per month are awarded on the player's renewal date (i.e. October 5)
- These points stack with themselves and any purchased points.
- Players who have completed Tier 8 are granted an extra 150pp per month.
- Reward Tokens: one Reward Token is awarded on the last day of the player's subscription (i.e. November 4)
- This is a stopgap measure until the developers can figure out how to award tokens up front, even for multi-month subscriptions
