Hi, could you check [[Mender Ramiel]]'s article and see what is causing the weird graphical error?  A week or two ago, the page was working fine, and now there seems to be a problem with Trapdoor's dialogue (the clue boxes maybe?) which is messing up the coding... but before, it worked, so I'm not sure what's going on with it.  Checking the history, even the earlier versions are affected.  o_O  [[User:Sera404|Sera404]] 05:24, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Just noticed that you're helping out with the set and enhancement pages.  Thanks!
+
Is there a pattern to which pages you're doing?  I don't want to duplicate effort.
+
There's a couple of minor things on the enhancement pages you probably aren't aware of that are biting you:
+
* Please round the enhancement effects numbers to one decimal place, i.e. 12.8 instead of 12.8125.  The extra digits make the table too wide for folks running 1024x768 screens.
+
* The "margin=4" thing I add sometimes in the DropRecipeTable is for the special case where a second-of-three table is shorter than the one before it. If margin isn't added at the end, then narrowing the window would put table 2 to the right of table 1, and table 3 directly below table 2, which looks weird.  The margin adds some space to the end of table 2 to knock table 3 to the left margin in these cases.  Most tables don't need it.
+
* The third parameter to DropRecipeTable is the number of data rows in the table, i.e. for a table from levels 15 to 20, the number is 6 (20 - 15 + 1). if it's too big, the bottom border of the table doesn't get drawn right on some browsers.
+
Hope this helps, and sorry I didn't document this better in the template pages. --[[User:Lin Chiao Feng|Lin Chiao Feng]]

:You're welcome.  I stumbled across a spreadsheet which I believe originated from Iakona - or so the link I followed said, and it certainly looks like his handiwork - and I'm using the data in there to update while I'm compiling tests at work. :)

:Right now I'm working through the Melee Damage sets.  So, in order, the next few I should be tackling would be:  Smashing Haymaker, Kinetic Combat, Focused Smite, Touch of Death, Crushing Impact, Mako's Bite.
+
:* Noted.  Will start rounding to the nearest 0.1.
+
:* Just copying and pasting, but good to know what that's for.
+
:* I figured that one out, but sometimes probably forget to update the number.
+

:Was just about to ask:  Do we have different templates for the headers on recipes that are obtained through Task Forces or missions from the one used for random drops?
+
== Thanks! ==
:--[[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]] 19:33, 8 June 2007 (EDT)
+
::Nope.  I'm not sure where that belongs.  It could easily become clutter.  Personally, I like the [[Recipe Drop Pools]] page, assuming it gets tightened up a bit.  That info could also go well in the category (Sets which improve Ranged Damage, etc.) pages, because you'd want to know what to do to get the recipes in the different sets. --[[User:Lin Chiao Feng|Lin Chiao Feng]] 20:08, 8 June 2007 (EDT)
+
:::Gotcha.  Just seems a little misleading to have a recipe say that it's obtainable by fighting enemies when it's not.  Maybe instead of a separate template, a parameter that would identify drop/TF/mission/etc. and modify the text accordingly?  Dunno, templates aren't something I've really gotten into yet, so I'm just thinking out loud. --[[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]] 20:43, 8 June 2007 (EDT)
+
::::Well, there's a parameter (set to U or R) for the rarity.  That can be changed to indicate drop pool as well (with TR, TF, and M).  If you happen across one of these recipes, can you go to the store and tell me what it sells for vs. its level?  I'm betting it's also 200 * level, but I'm not sure. In the meantime, I'll change the template to support M, TF, and TR. --[[User:Lin Chiao Feng|Lin Chiao Feng]] 21:12, 8 June 2007 (EDT)
+
:::::Cool.  Looks good.  All the data I have in front of me would also indicate that you are correct about the pricing for all of the M/TF/TR recipes being 200 * level as well. --[[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]] 18:18, 10 June 2007 (EDT)
+

Another problem: you're showing level 51-53 enhancements as having improved performance vs. level 50, but the Wentworth's screen say s it caps at the level 50 effect.  I've been showing levels 50-53 as a single column in the enhancement effects tables, but if that's not the case, please let me know. --[[User:Lin Chiao Feng|Lin Chiao Feng]] 21:12, 8 June 2007 (EDT)
+
Thanks for the welcome, [[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]]! Just trying to help out and, with luck, not break anything too badly.... =)
:Again, just going from the numbers I had in front of me.  It would stand to reason that if the crafting costs keep going up from 50-53 that the effectiveness would as well.  At any rate, I'm standing in Wetworth's as I type this and from what I can see by hovering over the enhancements, the text descriptions would indicate that you're correct about the effectiveness remaining constant across those levels. I'll go back in and fix the ones I've done so far. --[[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]] 18:18, 10 June 2007 (EDT)
+
:: Unfortunately, the costs go up while the effect doesn't. It's a plain old ripoff. --[[User:Lin Chiao Feng|Lin Chiao Feng]] 19:58, 10 June 2007 (EDT)

I just spent this morning overhauling my templates for the enhancement pages.  The documentation isn't very good, though.  Look at Air Burst or Aegis to see what I've done.  The main issue left is that the salvage list could be streamlined some (but I'm not sure what that would do to DPL), and there are several tables that haven't been entered.  I've got a program that can generate the tables; I just need to find the ones I need (if I did all of them, there would be 4(schedules) * 4(effects per enhancement) * 13 (level ranges) = too dang much.  Let me know what isn't clear, so I know what to document first. --[[User:Lin Chiao Feng|Lin Chiao Feng]] 19:58, 10 June 2007 (EDT)
+
[[User:Buxley|Buxley]] 13:54, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
:Wow.  That's <i>really</i> streamlined.  I guess for documentation, something like this would be good:
+
:The DropRecipeTables template creates a set of tables for IO set enhancements that details the salvage and influence/infamy required to craft the enhancement at each level.
+
: Syntax:  <nowiki>{{DropRecipeTables|from=MIN|to=MAX|(salvage 10-24)|(salvage 25-40)|(salvage 41-53)}}</nowiki>
+
::* from=MIN
+
:::The <I>from</I> parameter sets the lowest level at which a particular IO set enhancement is available.  This is a required parameter.
+
:::<B>MIN</B> is the constant variable indicating the lowest level the IO is available.
+
::* to=MAX
+
:::The <I>to</I> parameter sets the highest level at which a particular IO set enhancement is available.  This is a required parameter.
+
:::<B>MAX</B> is the constant variable indicating the highest level the IO is available.
+
::* Salvage Lists
+
:::Each salvage list indicates the salvage required across each applicable level range of the IO set enhancement.  Separate lists are required for each of the following level ranges:
+
::::* 10-24
+
::::* 25-40
+
::::* 41-53
+
:::If an IO set enhancement is not available anywhere in a specific level range, the salvage list for that range should be left blank.
+
:Example:  An IO set enhancement is available from levels 25-53.  For levels 25-40, one Ancient Bone, one Inert Gas, one Alchemical Gold, and one Reactive Gas are required.  For levels 41-53, one Regenerating Flesh, one Temporal Analyzer, one Psionic Threat Report, and one Chronal Skip.
+
::<nowiki>{{DropRecipeTables|from=25|to=53</nowiki>
+
::<nowiki>|</nowiki>
+
::<nowiki>|{{ISalvage|Ancient Bone|1}}<br />{{ISalvage|Inert Gas|1}}<br />{{ISalvage|Alchemical Gold|1}}<br />{{ISalvage|Reactive Gas|1}}</nowiki>

:2)  I'm not certain on the level ranges, but I think that's right.  Just threw them in there off the top of my head.

:3)  Not certain how to make a double '{' or '}' appear without actually referencing the template.  Also not certain how to show the code for the line break in there without it actually producing a line break.  Will go hunting for those in a second here. (Edit:  Found it.)

A few weeks ago I posted the following on [[Talk:Damage Scale]]:
 +
:''"Is there any particular reason this exists as it's own distinct article? It seems to me that it would be more reader-friendly to have one comprehensive article dealing with the basics of damage in the game. This article could be folded into [[Damage]], which could also have a section transcluding [[Limits#Damage]]. This would give most/all the pertinent information regarding damage on one logically named page."''
 +
It appears that page goes so unchecked that no one with an opinion on the comment noticed it, which is unsurprising since it's only even seen an edit once in the last two years. Thus, I would like ask, what is your opinion on the idea?

== Living Game Manual ==
+
<br />Also, did anything conclusive ever come of the [[Talk:Theoden|discussion on Theoden]]?
Under Creating a Character, you start with Selecting an Archetype. I suggest you start of with Selecting Alignment for if you want a Hero or a Villain. Sure, you could separate those when you discuss the archetypes, but the fact that you'll experience different game content depending on Hero/Villain archetypes, in my opinion, merits a section of its own. --[[User:GuyPerfect|GuyPerfect]] 19:47, 3 July 2007 (EDT)
+
:In the existing manuals, selecting hero or villain is included under "Getting Started".  But you're right; it really deserves to be part of the character creation process. --[[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]] 20:30, 3 July 2007 (EDT)

== Briefing/Debriefing templates ==
+
:I don't know that I can think of a specific reason that the Damage Scale information couldn't be folded into the Damage article.  I wouldn't oppose moving the information, but don't see anything inherently wrong with it being standalone for anyone searching specifically for information on Damage Scale.  If we do end up moving the information, we should fold it into the Damage article as a new section and redirect from Damage Scale to that new section.

Hello!
+
:The page hasn't been edited in the last couple of years because the information hasn't changed.  (At least, I'm pretty sure the scales are still the same.)  No need to change the article it if the information hasn't changed and the article is easily understood.

Hey, just noticed you are doing a great work with the Rikti War zone contacts! Keep up the good work! =)
+
:Regarding Theoden, the consensus of the discussion in the [http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,4281.0.html forum thread] seems to be that we should use the Task Force format for the individual Who Will Die arcs.  Having a single Who Will Die page to summarize the arcs works well because the sub-arc each contact offers is named differently than "Who Will Die: Part X", which would make it harder to identify that the arcs are tied together. --[[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]] [[File:Healthbar notify phone.png|20px|link=User talk:Eabrace]] 18:15, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Just wanted to say, though, that the Briefing/Debrieifng templates are only used when third persons/contacts/whatever talk to you during the mission, just to notice their presence in such mission: For regular briefings or debriefings, it's not necessary, nor it is done. I don't know who did these templates, but I find them useful. =)
+
::My specific reasoning for thinking it would be better to have the Damage Scale information on the Damage page is that it's somewhat of a unique concept to CoH and with the many new players coming to the game now, they probably won't even know what to look for to find out how to compare the Archetypes mechanical ability to deal damage (which is also why I think we should include a DPL section for [[Limits#Damage]]). I do definitely think that redirecting [[Damage Scale]] to the section would be wise if the articles do get merged, for the more experienced players who know the term. [[User:Draeth Darkstar|Draeth Darkstar]] 18:37, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Oh, just noticed you are uploading the images of the small portraits needed for the Briefing/Debriefing templates. Well, I don't know where, but I think there's a category somewhere in the Wiki to storage them... I certainly know the already existing ones are somewhere! Just telling to avoid having two different sections for the same purpose. =)
+
:::I'll have to take you at your word regarding the the uniqueness of the Damage Scale. (CoH is my first and primary exposure to MMOs and I've played only one other MMO in the last 7 years.)  The numeric table in the Damage Scale article was created primarily to fulfill that need to compare AT damage output capabilities side-by-side.  I'm not really sure a DPL section for Damage Limits would be more (or less) useful than a link under "See Also" at the end of the Damage article, though. --[[User:Eabrace|Eabrace]] [[File:Healthbar notify phone.png|20px|link=User talk:Eabrace]] 19:00, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Other than this, congratulate you for your hard work on those contacts! =D
+
::::In thinking of how best to make this article as informative and user-friendly as possible, I came up with a new question: Do you know if the tables and equations listed in [http://web.archive.org/web/20120904212743/http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=115442 the Power Data Standardization v2.0 guide] exist somewhere on the wiki (with or without current data)? Nowhere on the wiki can I actually find the actual formula used to calculate a power's damage, which seems like something that we should have documented here. I just saw that you added Nemesis to the enemy groups of Levantera. Well, just wanted to say that the Warhulk that mission spawns seems to serve as a boss for the Nemesis automatons group you find in this mission. The automatons lack any Bosses and use Warhulks instead.
+
== Templates --> Missionspace ==
 +
So... after seeing your comment on my Talk page, I decided to go through and start moving a few of the Templates into the missionspace. Man!  What a job that is.  It's like this angry tangled root system!  I thought I would start at a single contact, and work on those missions, and make that all nice and neat, well, that led me to other contacts, and more missions they didn't share, and then of course those lead me to other contacts!!  It's truly obnoxious mostly thankless work, to be sure.  Do you have a system that works well?  Wouldn't mind assisting since I obviously noticed the need for the change too. :)  —[[User:Thirty7|Thirty7]] [[File:Talk-Icon.jpg|link=User talk:Thirty7]] 09:17, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

I can't say if there were any other Nemesis in the mission: I restarted it a couple times (solo) and never saw a single Nemesis. If you did it with a group and Nemesis spawned, then please add them. If not, well, just wanted you to know that during missions against the Automatons, Warhulks (yep, technically under Nemesis faction) is all they will spawn as bosses. Hence the lack of Nemesis.  =)

Thanks for the welcome, Eabrace (from July 2010).

:Ah.  I was referring to the list of characters and associated SGs I have in my personal info. I'm very familiar with raw HTML coding, so when I put those together, I used what I knew.  Having since gathered quite a bit of knowledge on how wiki tables work (though I still cringe when I use CSS), I was thinking I might try to convert those tables to wiki format.  It'll be an exercise in seeing how proficient my wiki table abilities are and possibly identifying holes.  So, if we sic the bot on them, that would probably defeat the purpose. The ; makes that line a "definition term", granting it automatic bolding. The : makes that line indented and it is considered a "definition definition". The definition stuff is actually a set of html tags. I like how it sets things off, because it's kind of like a "fake section" with a "fake heading". (Ignore the {{tl|lipsum}} template, it just dummies out text so you can see the formatting easier.)

Hi Eabrace!
+
So I added the invention enhancement for [[Touch of Lady Grey]] and I saw you made a minor change and added the recipe drop pool (Thanks, and how do you know which pool they are supposed to be in?). So I hope you are right guy to ask. There seem to be a link under the title line in some of the enhancement page that is not suppose to be there, and I wonder why and how they come to be, and most important, how do I correct them?
+
The page are as follow:
+
*[[Touch of Lady Grey: Defense Debuff/Rech]],
+
*[[Touch of Lady Grey: Defense Debuff/Recharge/Endurance Reduction]] and
+
*[[Touch of Lady Grey: Defense Debuff/Endurance Reduction]].
+

+
It seems to only occur on the pages with Defense Debuff in the name, except the first one? I hope this is the correct place to post this.

:This is as good a place as any to ask that question.  :)
+

+
:Drop Pools:  I grabbed the info for the recipe drop pools from the tables in [[Invention Origin Enhancement Sets]].  Wasn't sure they'd be there when I checked, but they were so I went ahead and added them to the recipes for ya.
+

+
:Parent Article Links:  I noticed those in a lot of the recipe articles, too.  It's an automatically generated link used to refer to what the wiki thinks is a parent article.  Parent/child articles are related by using a '/' in the name of the article.  For example, the following articles are all children of the same parent article:
+
:* [[The Players' Guide to the Cities/User Interface/Status Window]]
+
:* [[The Players' Guide to the Cities/User Interface/Team Window]]
+
:* [[The Players' Guide to the Cities/User Interface/Map Window]]
+
:At the top of each of those articles, you'll find links back to the existing parent articles.
+

+
:As for why some recipe articles have those links and others don't, it took me a while, but I finally realized it's because the parent links are only created if there's an existing article by that name.  The three you mentioned all have parent links because there is an existing [[Touch of Lady Grey: Defense Debuff]] article, so the wiki automatically interprets that as the parent of anything with a '/' following in the name.  On the other hand, since there is no existing Touch of Lady Grey: Recharge article, the [[Touch of Lady Grey: Recharge/Endurance Reduction]] article has no linked parent.
+

+
:How to correct those is an interesting question.  I hadn't given it much more than a passing thought, but there's probably a way to suppress it, much like there's a way to suppress the table of contents on an article.  Maybe one of other more wiki-fluent admins might know. Sounds like a good topic for the forums.  ([http://paragonforums.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=925 link to thread on Paragon Forums])

Mender Ramiel's article

Hi, could you check Mender Ramiel's article and see what is causing the weird graphical error? A week or two ago, the page was working fine, and now there seems to be a problem with Trapdoor's dialogue (the clue boxes maybe?) which is messing up the coding... but before, it worked, so I'm not sure what's going on with it. Checking the history, even the earlier versions are affected. o_O Sera404 05:24, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

Laptop is running Windows XP with firefox, PC is running Windows 7 with firefox and Explorer, both seem to have the same problem at this part of Mender Ramiel's article, where the text flows off the 'white page' into the blue background. If you need to, shall I screenshot it for you? Sera404 06:43, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Screenshotted. Same thing happens on both my PC and laptop, so I don't think it's an isolated incident? Sera404 06:54, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

I have a bunch of images to upload for the Halloween bundle, and I was certain we had a bulk upload page that you've used before, but I can't find mention of it anywhere on the forums or in talk histories. Halp! ~ AGGE talk/cons 20:35, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

We did have one, but it broke with the most recent version of MediaWiki. That being said, however, Sekoia and Guy have a method for bulk uploading that I haven't played with yet. --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 21:18, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

A Couple Questions

A few weeks ago I posted the following on Talk:Damage Scale:

"Is there any particular reason this exists as it's own distinct article? It seems to me that it would be more reader-friendly to have one comprehensive article dealing with the basics of damage in the game. This article could be folded into Damage, which could also have a section transcluding Limits#Damage. This would give most/all the pertinent information regarding damage on one logically named page."

It appears that page goes so unchecked that no one with an opinion on the comment noticed it, which is unsurprising since it's only even seen an edit once in the last two years. Thus, I would like ask, what is your opinion on the idea?

Also, did anything conclusive ever come of the discussion on Theoden?

Thanks,
Draeth Darkstar 17:54, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

I can't speak for anyone else, but I did read your question when it was written. I just didn't think I had a good answer to offer.
I don't know that I can think of a specific reason that the Damage Scale information couldn't be folded into the Damage article. I wouldn't oppose moving the information, but don't see anything inherently wrong with it being standalone for anyone searching specifically for information on Damage Scale. If we do end up moving the information, we should fold it into the Damage article as a new section and redirect from Damage Scale to that new section.
The page hasn't been edited in the last couple of years because the information hasn't changed. (At least, I'm pretty sure the scales are still the same.) No need to change the article it if the information hasn't changed and the article is easily understood.
Regarding Theoden, the consensus of the discussion in the forum thread seems to be that we should use the Task Force format for the individual Who Will Die arcs. Having a single Who Will Die page to summarize the arcs works well because the sub-arc each contact offers is named differently than "Who Will Die: Part X", which would make it harder to identify that the arcs are tied together. --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 18:15, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
My specific reasoning for thinking it would be better to have the Damage Scale information on the Damage page is that it's somewhat of a unique concept to CoH and with the many new players coming to the game now, they probably won't even know what to look for to find out how to compare the Archetypes mechanical ability to deal damage (which is also why I think we should include a DPL section for Limits#Damage). I do definitely think that redirecting Damage Scale to the section would be wise if the articles do get merged, for the more experienced players who know the term. Draeth Darkstar 18:37, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
I'll have to take you at your word regarding the the uniqueness of the Damage Scale. --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 19:00, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
In thinking of how best to make this article as informative and user-friendly as possible, I came up with a new question: Do you know if the tables and equations listed in the Power Data Standardization v2.0 guide exist somewhere on the wiki (with or without current data)? Nowhere on the wiki can I actually find the actual formula used to calculate a power's damage, which seems like something that we should have documented here. Draeth Darkstar 05:05, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
I'll have to wait until I'm somewhere that I can view that link to let you know. (Blocked at work.) --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 13:50, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Templates --> Missionspace

So... after seeing your comment on my Talk page, I decided to go through and start moving a few of the Templates into the missionspace. :) —Thirty7 Talk-Icon.jpg 09:17, 21 March 2012 (UTC)

Re: Signature Transclusion

I'm an idiot -- I copied my signature template over from another wiki I edit on and forgot ta reassign the links. Appreciate the reminder! As it turns out, I also made that same silly blunder with my Preferences settings, which explains why I couldn't get my signature ta work whilst replyin' to ya here! All fixed up now though.  :3 ~ Jessica U. Ingmann (Info, Talk, Edits) 18:02, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

Can I get a review of my new entries?

Thanks for the welcome, Eabrace (from July 2010).

I've mostly made minor updates so far, but I'm starting to fill in larger chunks of missing content. As such, I'm a little less confident that I'm doing things correctly, style-wise. I've read though the Article Guidelines and Mission Article style guide, and I'm a veteran Wikipedia editor; but I wanted a second set of eyes to look over my newest entries, before I make a lot more.

This initial set was filling in the story arc information for Nobel Savage. Unfortunately, I only started recording mission information half way through the arc. For this set, I added:

If you have the time, please look over these entries and make sure I'm following ParagonWiki style and didn't leave anything out.

Thanks, Office Manager --OfficeManager 03:28, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

I'll try to give them a look some time this weekend and let you know. I'll probably be hiding from the sun in the middle of the day all weekend (going to try planting my garden, but it's supposed to be sunny and a little warmer than I care for outside), so that should give me a little time to check those out.  :) --Eabrace Healthbar notify phone.png 04:47, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
