Petless Mastermind 2: Return of Petless Mastermind

Nothing says terrible programmer like resizing the color and alpha channels separately.

Ever since the success of Bob the Biohazard, I've been able to point at the petless Mastermind paradigm and say "See? Look at that. It works!" I continue to be plagued by people who literally do things like post "that would be way better with pets" in threads called "Petless Masterminds," but I keep telling myself that those people have got to be the exception. Conversely, the people who prefer to keep their heads beyond the bounds of their lower digestive tracts are both understanding and insightful, and a great many are even appreciative of my accomplishment. It's a niche market for sure, but it's a fun one and it's a wonderful mental exercise to figure out ways to pull it off.

It was just before the release of Issue 21 when I decided to finally switch Bob's build back to the petless one and see how it performed with a Level Shift and its various other Incarnate Abilities. The result was very pleasant, as the character really was that much more powerful than it was before, launching it clear into the ranks of characters who perform "not too bad." Reinvigorated (and much harder to kill), I took a rematch against some of the tougher enemies that gave me troubles before, and handily bested them. In my book, that character was a rousing success and I'd pat myself on the back if I wasn't so busy doing other awesome things.

My Global Friends list was particularly vacant that day, but Keen (the City Info Tracker guy) was on and happened to be responsive. So I told him the petless Mastermind rocked and he said he wanted to make one of his own. This was surprising, because people do not simply want to make a petless Mastermind. A conversation of insignificant importance took place which left me inspired to take another stab at the thing. Bob the Biohazard was created namely as a concept character, and decisions were made accordingly that affected its potential. This time around, I took the initiative to create a petless Mastermind to the furthest extent of my capabilities, and that's what ultimately led to you reading this paragraph right here right now.

Researching the available Power Sets, I settled on Demon Summoning and Trick Arrow. These choices were made bearing in mind things I'd learned from Bob the Biohazard, the powers' sheer effectiveness and redraw/animation/etc. considerations. After some long, hard considerations and checking available options while forming a build for the character, I settled on Leviathan Mastery for the epic set due to its utility. With any luck, I'll wind up with something that bypasses Bob's epicness.

With the introduction of a new up-and-coming personal flagship character, I've been making preparations for leaving my mark on the game (a Supergroup among them). I mean, nobody else has stepped up to the plate, so I'm just gonna have to be The Petless Mastermind Guy.
