Welcome to the Paragon Wiki!

City of Heroes official site
City of Villains official site

Welcome to City of Heroes and City of Villains, the online world that's home to an entire universe of heroes and villains, where you and thousands of other players take on the roles of super powered heroes and villains in a stunning, 3D graphical world.

This wiki is intended to be a central repository of all things that have to do with NCSoft's two MMORPG's, City of Heroes and City of Villains. This wiki is a community effort. If you cannot find the information you are searching for, please add it to the wiki for other users to see.

To find information, use the search box on the left, or feel free to browse the available categories or view the table of contents.

This wiki is provided by the Paragon City Free Press, a fansite dedicated to the enjoyment of City of Heroes and City of Villains by providing more depth to the game.

Please see the Editing User's Guide for information about how to write and create articles for this wiki.

Recent Updates

  • The wiki was recently updated to MediaWiki version 1.7.1. This will allow new features to be implemented as well as correct some potential security issues.
  • The article on mayhem missions has had a lot of great work done on it. Need to know anything about a mission? Check here!
  • A Utilities sidebar has been added to the left of the main wiki screen. The intention is to allow quick access to the most commonly used and recommended utilities for City of Heroes and City of Villains. For more links, please visit the Community Portal.
  • A lot of content has been added for Issue 7. Some of the articles include: the Recluse's Victory and Grandville zones; the Foreshadow, Mirror Spirit, Spark Blade, Rose Star, and, of course, Wiggy the Brit contacts; updates of the Electrical Melee, Electric Armor, Dark Armor and Dark Melee powersets and the addition of the Thugs powerset; and more! Be sure to stay tuned for new and exciting articles to help you get you survive and thrive in the new City of Heroes updates!
  • A link to the forums has now been placed in the navigation tool bar. Be sure to check in often to see what is new and planned for the wiki!
  • Wikilogo.jpg
The site now has an icon! Some browsers (Firefox and Opera, among others) support icons in the address bar, and you will now see it there. Others (such as Internet Explorer) support the icon, but only in bookmarks.
  • The sites formerly listed on the front page have been moved to the Community portal page, accessible by a link in the navigation box on the left from every page. Please check out some of these sites, as many of them provide a wide variety of utilities and services and in-depth information!
  • The effort to complete the documentation of the City of Villains exploration badges in a standardized format is done. (See News item below for more information.)
  • Added a Warburg Missile Launch Mission article to describe the steps involved in completing this mission and receiving your Warburg temporary powers!
  • Confused about how coordates work in City of Heroes and City of Villains? Check out the new article that details the coordinate system!

Upgrade!

The Paragon Wiki is now running on the latest version of MediaWiki, version 1.7.1. This will allow for some new features to be implemented as well as correct some potential security issues. There is a discussion topic about the upgrade on the forums. If you have any issues or comments about the upgrade, feel free to drop by and let us know.

The upgrade took place from approximately 1:30pm EDT until 2:30pm EDT, and all went relatively smoothly.

Wanted: Your Mad Writing Skillz

Want to contribute to the Paragon Wiki but don't know where to start? One good place to start is by editing articles that are designed as Stub articles and Work in Progress articles. These articles need anything from minor tweaks to major overhauls, and anything you have to add would be appreciated!

If you want to dive into writing some highly needed articles from scratch, check out the list of Wanted Pages. These are pages that are linked to from other pages but that have no articles associated with them. They are sorted by the number of links that point to them, so by filling in the articles towards the top of the list, you will be giving the most bang for your temporal buck.

And to everyone who has and is currently editing the wiki, be sure to read the item below once again!

Yet Another Thank-You!

Because it can't be said enough, I wanted to express again a huge amount of gratitude to the editors and administrators of the Paragon Wiki! The amount of material that has been added and changed since the release of Issue 7 has been immense, and everyone has done an absolutely phenomenal job keeping up with it! It just goes to show with stunning clarity that the Paragon Wiki is truly your site, and you deserve all the credit for its success and usefulness. Thanks again, everyone!

Get Sevenified!

As I write this update (12:40pm Eastern), Issue 7 is being rolled out on the live servers. There are lots of new changes, so it is highly recommended that you read the Patch Notes on the official site for complete details. Please allow some extra time next time you log in, as it will take a few minutes to download and patch the installed client. But once you're in, prepare to be blown away!

Domain Names Re-registered

Good news, the Paragon Wiki and its sister site, the Paragon City Free Press, aren't going anywhere anytime soon. I received a 30-day notification today that the domain names were going to expire soon, so I went ahead and re-registered them. In fact, I went ahead and registered them for six years, so all of the names (paragonwiki and pcfreepress, .com, .net, and .org) are now protected for at least that long, and you can rest assured that no cybersquatters will be sitting on these sites anytime soon due to my forgetfulness!

That's right, Issue 7 is now on the test server! For details on how to copy a character over and give it a whirl before it goes live, check out the article on the Training Room server.

User Database Change

As mentioned in a notice at the top of the site, the user database has changed to use the PC Free Press/Paragon Wiki forums users and passwords instead of maintaining separate usernames and passwords for each. If any problems are experienced, please post a message on the forums or notify tonyv@pcfreepress.com.

Site Listed on Fansite Portal

This site was submitted to the official Fan Site Portal at the same time that the new Heroic theme was rolled out. Today, one of the members of the CoH Web Team (Awry) sent the following message:

"After careful review we thought your site looked great and has been approved. It should be up very shortly. Thanks for submitting!"

User Database Integration Testing Completed

Final testing of the user database integration between MediaWiki and phpBB has been completed, and by Sunday, March 13, 2006, all user account validation will be checked against the PC Free Press/Paragon Wiki forums user database instead of the wiki maintaining its own separate user databse. Wiki users will be forced to create a forums account in the process, but this change will enable users to maintain the same username and password between the wiki and the forums instead of having two separate accounts.

A notice has been placed at the top of the front page of the wiki to alert users of the change.

New Heroic Wiki Skin Implemented

Changes are afoot! There is a new skin called "Heroic," and it has been set to the default skin of the wiki. All existing accounts have also been switched over to the new skin. If you prefer the old skin, simply go to your Preferences under the Skin settings, and set your skin back to MonoBook.

The changes are purely cosmetic and do not affect the look or feel of the actual wiki content, merely the outer navigational, header, and footer appearance. If you experience any difficulties with this skin or you have any comments or questions, please post a message on the wiki forums and let me know. Otherwise, enjoy!

Software Upgrade

The Paragon Wiki has been upgraded! This weekend, after extensive testing and and development of software installations and automation scripts, the MediaWiki software that runs the Paragon Wiki was upgraded from verstion 1.4.9 to version 1.5.6. (If interested in the technical details, please see the MediaWiki release notes.)

When all was said and done, the upgrade went very quickly and smoothly. The wiki was down from 3:20 am EST until 3:23 am EST. For a pretty major upgrade, that's not bad at all. Still, if you notice any glitches or problems, please e-mail tonyv@pcfreepress.com or post a message on our forums.

If you happened to try to access the wiki between 3:20 am EST and 3:23 am EST early Monday morning, I apologize for the inconvenience.

City of Villains Exploration Badges Complete

Hey all, a rather intensive effort over the past couple of days to document and audit all of the City of Villains Exploration Badge articles is complete. In addition to the normal wiki information fare, each article has got the badge description, a detailed explanation of how to get to the badge, and an in-game picture showing you exactly where the badge is. Also, each has been formatted according to a rational standard and categorized correctly.
