Overview

A Global Character Slot Token is used to unlock a character slot on any server except Exalted. The character slot can be empty or be occupied by a character.

Description

The mechanics of Global Character Slot Tokens only pertain to Free Players and Premium Players.

Free Scenario

Free Players will receive two Global Character Slot Tokens to apply to any server except the VIP-only server, Exalted. Once used to open a slot, they are permanently expended. Free players will be able to create a character in that slot on that server from one of 8 archetypes.

Returning Scenario

Returning players will receive at least two Global Character Slot Tokens to apply to any server except the VIP-only server, Exalted. Once used to open a slot, they are permanently expended.

The number of Global Character Slot Tokens a returning player may own is variable.

  • A player will receive one additional token for every cumulative 12 months of total paid subscription time
  • A player will receive two additional tokens if they purchased Going Rogue before City of Heroes Freedom
  • A player will receive one additional token for any character slot purchased

Examples:

Player ColeMiner started playing the game with Going Rogue, loved it, and bought a 12 month subscription. He quickly bought 20 character slots on his home server to create alts then lost interest and stopped playing until after the launch of City of Heroes Freedom. He would have 2 (all accounts get two) + 1 (1 year) + 20 (purchased slots) + 2 (Going Rogue) for a total of 25 Global Character Slot Tokens.

Player Scrapperlock has been subscribing off and on since Issue 3 and has paid for a total of 44 months but hasn't played for more than a year. He comes back to try out City of Heroes Freedom. He would have 2 (all accounts get two) + 3 (3 years) for a total of 5 Global Character Slot Tokens.

Player Altaholic has been subscribing and buying expansions since the game's launch in 2004. He plays on two servers and bought open all 36 slots on both servers prior to Issue 21. After Issue 21, he stops subscribing. He would have 2 (all accounts get two) + 7 (subscribing for 7 years) + 48 (24 and 24 for opening 36 slots on each server) + 2 (Going Rogue) for a total of 59 Global Character Slot Tokens.

Unlocking Characters

Licenses purchased through the Paragon Market and a player's status within the Paragon Rewards Program will determine which previously created characters are available to unlock.

Examples:

Player ColeMiner knows he wants to unlock his main, a mastermind and a few other favorite alts right away. His mastermind will not be unlockable until he purchases a Mastermind License at the Paragon Market because he is only Reward Level 3.

Player Scrapperlock wants to unlock his main and a one or two other characters he recalled enjoying playing. He's able to unlock his Spines/Fire scrapper, Ill/Rad controller and Bots/FF mastermind right away because he's Reward Level 5 in the Paragon Rewards Program.

Player Altaholic wants to unlock all his level 50 characters. Despite being Reward Level 8, he's unable to unlock his Warshade, Crab Spider and Fortunata until he purchases the Warshade Epic Archetype License, Arachnos Soldier Epic Archetype License and Arachnos Widow Epic Archetype License from the Paragon Market. Facing a cost of 3000 Paragon Points, he decides to resubscribe for another 3 months.
