Character History

Team Role

Saibera is the Black Swan Exiles' strongest Melee combatant. As an android, Saibera is also a decent hacker (Ruyumi is more skilled, however).

Behind the Scenes

Concept

Saibera was designed because I liked the idea of a claw using Superhero, but didn't want to use a Wolverine clone, which eliminated Regeneration as the secondary powerset straight off the bat. The description of Claws as a fast attack powerset immediately led me to Super Reflexes as the secondary powerset.

Saibera's name was inspired by the original 3-blades Hero Claws design (this was before the introduction of Dual Blades). The play on words led me to the concept of an android, and the costume was designed around that - the costume is actually Saibera's body. There is one scheduled costume change in mind - swapping out the Exo-Proto set for the Vanguard armour set, once all the pieces are earned. I'm also debating swapping the Electricity Aura out for the Cyborg HUD.

Design Notes

The concept did vary a bit at first, and I've used a couple of freespecs on changes. Initially, Saibera was meant to use non-super Super Speed as her travel power (which would have freed up 2 power slots) - ultimately, Quickness and Swift did not give me sufficient speed boosts to make this viable, so I swapped Flight into the mix, adding the Tech Wings to match. Between Quickness and strategic Recharge Reduction enhancements, Saibera has Melee and Mid-Range attack chains set up with no recharge delays, and has sufficient accuracy buffs to be at hit cap against mobs up to 3 levels higher.

Future Direction

Once Multi-Build becomes available, the secondary build will be a more team-oriented build. Conserve Power, Laser Beam Eyes and Energy Torrent will be dropped in preference of Challenge, Confront and Provoke to allow Saibera to act as a backup tank, and keep enemies off of the squishier archetypes. Otherwise, it's just going to be improving the IOs in powers.

Mutants and Masterminds

For the Mutants and Masterminds incarnation of Saibera, I've stuck fairly close to the original concept - An android who is extremely fast with claws. I've stuck with the Talsorian claws (because I like them better, and being made of projected energy, they give better justification for Shockwave and Focus). Focus was chosen as the primary power for the array for math reasons. The Defensive Roll and Dodge Focus were selected, rather than protection and straight up defense, to simulate super reflexes better - when moving, it's really hard to hit, but when held in place, sitting duck. Finally, the Body Mastery powers were dropped, as they are superfluous, and Flight was discarded (as it wasn't in the original design) - Wall Run and Water Run were added to Super-Speed to negate the loss of mobility. As a close-in fighter, the decision was made to focus on melee combat more, resulting in the difference between Ranged and Melee attack skill. The feat selection allows for trading off between defence, accuracy and damage output to simulate the varies claw strikes, as well as partially compensate for the reduction in ranged combat skill (For example, All-Out Attack allows for 5 points of defense to be shifted to attack skill).

To round the character out, a handful of skills were added, and the Datalink power was included to represent a short range transmitter (Think WiFi). Due to Saibera's android nature, some appropriate immunities were also added (Life Support includes self-contained breathing, immunity to disease, immunity to poisons, and environmental cold, heat, pressure, vacuum and radiation).

As a note, the character is built to the default starting character points, and uses information from the Ultimate Power book. Also, the range has been left off of Focus - range increment is 100 ft.
