A couple of things I'm not sure of at the time of editing.
+
==== New Hero Wiki Skin Implemented ====

* Are these powers also available to villains? I'm guessing yes, and for the same amount of infamy.
+
Changes are afoot! There is a new skin called "Heroic," and it has been set to the default skin of the wiki.  All existing accounts have also been switched over to the new skin.  If you prefer the old skin, simply go to your Preferences under the Skin settings, and set your skin back to MonoBook.

* The power choices are different on the villains side. Some powers are available to both, and some are unique to one side. This page only shows the heroes ones currently.
+
The changes are purely cosmetic and do not affect the look or feel of the actual wiki content, merely the outer navigational, header, and footer appearance. If you experience any difficulties with this skin or you have any comments or questions, please post a message on the [http://paragonwiki.com/forums wiki forums] and let me know.  Otherwise, enjoy!

* I created a few templates to make creating the boxed entries easier.  I just got tired of counting out 17 spaces minus the description text :D
+
=== February 27, 2006 ===

* On the grenades, I'm not sure if the purchase gives 6 grenades (uses) or if you have to purchase it 6 times to get 6 uses.  I'll test that after dinner :D
+
==== Software Upgrade ====

* Many of these are copies of regular temp powers, but have different stats (for the most part)The Arena temp powers (coming soon) also have different stats.
+
The Paragon Wiki has been [[Special:Version|upgraded]]!  This weekend, after extensive testing and and development of software installations and automation scripts, the MediaWiki software that runs the Paragon Wiki was upgraded from verstion 1.4.9 to version 1.5.6.  (If interested in the technical details, please see the [http://sourceforge.net/project/shownotes.php?release_id=386609 MediaWiki release notes].)

* The web grenade icon has no ring, indicating it's supposed to affect the player, even though it is a single target power.
+
When all was said and done, the upgrade went very quickly and smoothly.  The wiki was down from 3:20 am EST until 3:23 am EST.  For a pretty major upgrade, that's not bad at all.  Still, if you notice any glitches or problems, please e-mail [mailto:tonyv@pcfreepress.com tonyv@pcfreepress.com] or post a message on our [http://pcfreepress.com/forums/ forums].

== Dimension Drops ==
+
If you happened to try to access the wiki between 3:20 am EST and 3:23 am EST early Monday morning, I apologize for the inconvenience.

The descriptions of the DDs will say they can only be used on heroes if they are sold to a villain, and villains if sold to a hero.  Since Chilly will not sell to villains and Dram will not sell to heroes, technically, this probably means there are actually 6 new powers, a villains version of each and a heroes version.  --[[User:StarGeek|StarGeek]] 13:02, 9 Feb 2006 (CST)

Hey all, a rather intensive effort over the past couple of days to document and audit all of the City of Villains [[CoV_Exploration_Badges|Exploration Badge articles]] is completeIn addition to the normal wiki information fare, each article has got the badge description, a detailed explanation of how to get to the badge, and an in-game picture showing you ''exactly'' where the badge isAlso, each has been formatted according to a rational standard and categorized correctly.

I don't have data on this CoV temp power, but Dev _Castle_ said that those with a Natural origin get a damage bonus.  Actually, the [[http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Number=4604538#Post4604538| full quote]] is

Wow, a brand new unpublished event was sprung on us today!  At midnight Eastern (for the east coast servers) and 9 pm Pacific (for the west coast servers), heroes and villains who logged in received a new costume part and an accolade!  Read more about the event in the [[Valentine's Day Event 2006]] article!

== Wheel of Destruction powers ==
+
=== February 7, 2006 ===

The duration of the Wheel of Destruction powers is not listed in their descriptions.  I'll try to find them out, assuming they're timed.  Also worth noting is that although the Empowered Shart of the Wheel is listed as "Minor DMG(Fire)," in actual use, the damage seems pretty damn heavy to me.  It's more powerful than just about any of my other dark scrapper attacks.  Hmmm...  --[[User:TonyV|TonyV]] 19:05, 3 Feb 2006 (CST)

==== Paragon Wiki Forums Test ====

: Every time I've gotten them, they didn't last longer than the mission or hitting the contact (I can't remember which)My current alt didn't finish this arc until he outleveled it (level 28 vs level 24 enemies) just a couple days ago and didn't receive '''any''' of the temp powersOn the other hand, the previous time I had this mission, I insisted that my teammates take the powers, and they kept them after the mission was done and I had hit the contact. I think I have 2 alts in this level range, I'll also try and grab it and see what happens. --[[User:StarGeek|StarGeek]] 19:15, 3 Feb 2006 (CST)

[http://www.pcfreepress.com/forums Test forums] have been installed for the site to discuss anything you have on your mind, such as mistakes in articles, requests for articles, asking for help, and so onCurrently, the forums and the wiki use two different user databases, but before the forums are considered live, the databases will be integratedWe apologize for the inconvenience, but hey, that's what makes them ''test'' forums! If you'd like to participate in the test, [http://www.pcfreepress.com/forums/profile.php?mode=register register for an account] and post away.

:: Well, I eyeball-timed it (made a note of when I got them and when they expired), and it seems to be 90 minutes for the offensive powers.  As for the resistance power, I haven't used it yet, and it didn't expire after a set time.  I'm pretty sure that, like other shielding temporary powers, it probably expires after a certain amount of time actually used.  Maybe I'll fire it up and see how long it lasts today.  For the record, getting these temporary powers after a mission is one of the most powerful things a hero can getAll three offensive powers do some pretty major damage, and I ran a respec trial after getting them and was able to dispatch +1 and +2 Jumpbot Incinerators really quickly without much trouble.  They've got a killer initial damage followed by some pretty serious Damage over Time once all three are kicking in, and the recharge rate on them is phenomenal! If one gets the mission in which he or she can collect these powers, I would ''highly'' suggest that one be prepared to take on a really tough challenge with good rewards afterwards. --[[User:TonyV|TonyV]] 08:51, 4 Feb 2006 (CST)
+
Also please note that as test forums, you should consider them purely beta, and though we'll be making periodic backups of the database for them (as part of my own administrative testing), you should keep copies of anything that you consider too important to be lost if the forum database eats itself on a whimThe default phpBB logos, colors, and icons have not been changed, but before the forums are considered live, there will definitely be some "aestheticization" of the site.

::''Update:''  Well, scratch what I said about the resistance power.  It turns out that the power did go away, and what's worse, I don't know when.  I'm guessing after 90 minutes after all.  The icon for that power and the Wedding Band power are exactly the same, and I must have been thinking that the Wedding Band power was that power.  When I went to test how long I could keep it on is when I found out that I didn't have the power after all.  Grrr... --[[User:TonyV|TonyV]] 20:10, 7 Feb 2006 (CST)

==== A New Domain Name ====

::: o.o err... actually you used to have the powers for a day, or till you log out. Sometime around i2 or i3, they made it as it currently is. The powers are actually a bit bugged, and like the TV reactor leak, can stick with you for an hour or two afterwords, depending on how the bug effects you. If you are over the range of the story arc when you do the finnal mission, you won't get the powers at all (you can exempt down into range though). They should go away when return to contact. I'd post the dev's explanantion, but it appears its no longer with us.
+
The domain name '''paragonwiki.com''' and its variants have been registered and redirected to this site. Since the Paragon City Free Press and the Paragon Wiki serve two conceptually different functions, serious consideration is being given to splitting them up. Before you panic, All current pointers will be retained, so all existing bookmarks, links, and such will still work fine. Mainly, the look of <nowiki>http://paragonwiki.com</nowiki> is better than <nowiki>http://www.pcfreepress.com/wiki</nowiki>, as it's much more readily apparent what it points to and it's much easier to remember.  More information will be posted on this later.

: I just ran through this arc and copied my character over to the I7 test.  Each of the four powers say that they last 90 minutes of in game time.  The powers are lost when you talk to your contacts.  I'll have to make another copy to see if it's just in game time or if real time also counts against the time.  --[[User:StarGeek|StarGeek]] 21:03, 13 May 2006 (PDT)

==== New Administrator ====

:This is already noted under "Duration," and usually within the power description itself as well (though not always, as I found out with the recent Wheel of Destruction powers).  If I notice any powers that expire at mission completion, I'll make a note of itAm I misreading your comment, or is that what you're referring to?  Oh, and ''when'' are you going to create a user page!? :-) --[[User:TonyV|TonyV]] 20:08, 7 Feb 2006 (CST)

I've added another person as an administrator of the site, [[User:StarGeek|StarGeek]].  If you've seen the [[Special:Recentchanges|Recent Changes]] log lately, you'll know that his additions to the wiki have been invaluable, and spread across several areas such as enemy articles, powersets, error corrections, and moreWith administrator privileges, he will now have even more access to change protected pages and perform user administration as well.

:: There are a few of these that do go away when you return to contact, even though they're supposed to stick around.  For example, the Wave Scrambler says 30 uses, but it will disappear when you return to the contact.  There are a few others, and, like Taxibot, I have often delayed going to the contact for fear of their loss.  I guess it's time to buckle down and start testing http://dotn.evilgeniuses.org/phpBB2/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif . --[[User:StarGeek|StarGeek]] 11:48, 9 Feb 2006 (CST)

Something's wrong in the description of the [[Temporary Powers#Psionic Activator|Psionic Activator]] power.  It says that it confuses the target, but the effect is only listed as stunI haven't checked out yet which in fact it is.  --[[User:TonyV|TonyV]] 15:51, 19 March 2006 (PST)

Well, not exactly.  The DNS servers for this site went kaput sometime yesterday (Saturday) afternoon Eastern time, which had the same effect:  For hours, the site was inaccessible.  It was, unfortunately, completely beyond my control other than logging a couple of tickets with my web hosting provider to try to have the matter resolvedSometime between around 11:00pm EST Saturday night and 5:30am EST this morning, the problem was resolved and normal service restored.  I apologize for any inconvenience this caused, and hope that the service provider takes steps to keep from having such a long outage again.

:Moved [[Origin Powers|Origin Temp powers]] to seperate page.

Well, if you've been checking the [[Special:Recentchanges|Recent Changes]] page, you may have noticed that the Paragon Wiki has lately been the victim of some vandals who are, no doubt, trying to increase their sites' link counts by posting hidden links to sites of, shall we say, questionable repute, in articles.

== Removing Brawl index numbers ==
+
If you're thinking about doing this (or have done this), I'd like to remind you of three things.  First, this site is a purely volunteer effort, which basically means that you're going to hell, have a nice day!  Second, this wiki is configured with rel=nofollow links that do not get followed by search engines, so your site is ''not'' getting credit for links from this site and you're wasting your time.  Third, I do check this site for changes at least once a day (usually more), and your links are taken down before any search engines really have a chance to see them.

Appearently, temp powers and accolades scale off their own index, rather than off the brawl damage of the toon using the powerYou can test this by getting an EMP Glove in Siren's Call on two different (but same level) characters and shooting the same type of bad guy with it. You'll get the same damage no matter the archetype.  I came across this using the Crey pistol accolade and went off to research it.  Here's [http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Number=4804120#Post4804120 a post by Blueeyed] and [http://cohwiki.pedantic.org/BrawlValues a chart] that has values that brawl would have it there was a brawl temp power.
+
Nevertheless, I resigned myself a long time ago to the old Internet adage that if you build it, they will attackI guess that I should take it as a kind of backhanded compliment that my site is important enough now to be spammed! Anyway, to alleviate the issue, I've implemented the wiki spam filter that the [http://en.wikipedia.org Wikipedia] uses.  Thanks, [[User:Taxibot_Yellow|Taxibot Yellow]] for pointing me to it!

The upshot of this is that I'm removing the temp power brawl index numbers, since they'll be inaccurate.  --[[User:StarGeek|StarGeek]] 16:36, 9 May 2006 (PDT)

First of all, I apologize for a mistake I made when I moved the site over to a different server.  In the process, I forgot to set up the email forwarder which forwards e-mail to [mailto:tonyv@pcfreepress.com tonyv@pcfreepress.com] to the web mail client I use.  The end result is that any e-mail that has been sent to me in the past couple of weeks was sent out to the Shadow Shard somewhere, never to be seen again.  I apologize profusely if you sent me something and I did not respond.  Please send it again, and I assure you that it will be read by me now.

How did NCsoft start off the new year?  How about by winning [http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/368/page/5/from/ Game of the Year] from MMORPG.com!  Congratulations and kudos to the developers, and it's a great way to start what I am certain will be another fantastic year of fighting crime—or causing it—in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles.  I promise that Paragon Wiki will continue to follow all changes and updates and become even bigger and better with tons of new information during the year!

New Hero Wiki Skin Implemented

Changes are afoot! There is a new skin called "Heroic," and it has been set to the default skin of the wiki. All existing accounts have also been switched over to the new skin. If you prefer the old skin, simply go to your Preferences under the Skin settings, and set your skin back to MonoBook.

The changes are purely cosmetic and do not affect the look or feel of the actual wiki content, merely the outer navigational, header, and footer appearance. If you experience any difficulties with this skin or you have any comments or questions, please post a message on the wiki forums and let me know. Otherwise, enjoy!

Software Upgrade

The Paragon Wiki has been upgraded! This weekend, after extensive testing and and development of software installations and automation scripts, the MediaWiki software that runs the Paragon Wiki was upgraded from verstion 1.4.9 to version 1.5.6. (If interested in the technical details, please see the MediaWiki release notes.)

When all was said and done, the upgrade went very quickly and smoothly. The wiki was down from 3:20 am EST until 3:23 am EST. For a pretty major upgrade, that's not bad at all. Still, if you notice any glitches or problems, please e-mail tonyv@pcfreepress.com or post a message on our forums.

If you happened to try to access the wiki between 3:20 am EST and 3:23 am EST early Monday morning, I apologize for the inconvenience.

City of Villains Exploration Badges Complete

Hey all, a rather intensive effort over the past couple of days to document and audit all of the City of Villains Exploration Badge articles is complete. In addition to the normal wiki information fare, each article has got the badge description, a detailed explanation of how to get to the badge, and an in-game picture showing you exactly where the badge is. Also, each has been formatted according to a rational standard and categorized correctly.

Valentine's Day Event 2006 Wrapping Up

At midnight Eastern (for the east coast servers) and 9 pm Pacific (for the west coast servers), heroes and villains who logged in received a new costume part and an accolade! Read more about the event in the Valentine's Day Event 2006 article!

Paragon Wiki Forums Test

Test forums have been installed for the site to discuss anything you have on your mind, such as mistakes in articles, requests for articles, asking for help, and so on. Currently, the forums and the wiki use two different user databases, but before the forums are considered live, the databases will be integrated. We apologize for the inconvenience, but hey, that's what makes them test forums! If you'd like to participate in the test, register for an account and post away.

Also please note that as test forums, you should consider them purely beta, and though we'll be making periodic backups of the database for them (as part of my own administrative testing), you should keep copies of anything that you consider too important to be lost if the forum database eats itself on a whim. The default phpBB logos, colors, and icons have not been changed, but before the forums are considered live, there will definitely be some "aestheticization" of the site.

A New Domain Name

The domain name paragonwiki.com and its variants have been registered and redirected to this site. Since the Paragon City Free Press and the Paragon Wiki serve two conceptually different functions, serious consideration is being given to splitting them up. Before you panic, All current pointers will be retained, so all existing bookmarks, links, and such will still work fine. Mainly, the look of http://paragonwiki.com is better than http://www.pcfreepress.com/wiki, as it's much more readily apparent what it points to and it's much easier to remember. More information will be posted on this later.

Issue 7 Preview Released

The Issue 7 Preview has been released on the City of Heroes and City of Villains official sites. With a new zone, new mission types, an increase in the villain level cap, new power sets, and much, more, this looks like it will be an exciting new chapter in the CoH universe!

New Administrator

I've added another person as an administrator of the site, StarGeek. If you've seen the Recent Changes log lately, you'll know that his additions to the wiki have been invaluable, and spread across several areas such as enemy articles, powersets, error corrections, and more. With administrator privileges, he will now have even more access to change protected pages and perform user administration as well.

Thanks for your contributions, StarGeek, and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next!

Server Outage

Well, not exactly. The DNS servers for this site went kaput sometime yesterday (Saturday) afternoon Eastern time, which had the same effect: For hours, the site was inaccessible. It was, unfortunately, completely beyond my control other than logging a couple of tickets with my web hosting provider to try to have the matter resolved. Sometime between around 11:00pm EST Saturday night and 5:30am EST this morning, the problem was resolved and normal service restored. I apologize for any inconvenience this caused, and hope that the service provider takes steps to keep from having such a long outage again.

January 15, 2006

Spam Filter

Well, if you've been checking the Recent Changes page, you may have noticed that the Paragon Wiki has lately been the victim of some vandals who are, no doubt, trying to increase their sites' link counts by posting hidden links to sites of, shall we say, questionable repute, in articles.

If you're thinking about doing this (or have done this), I'd like to remind you of three things. First, this site is a purely volunteer effort, which basically means that you're going to hell, have a nice day! Second, this wiki is configured with rel=nofollow links that do not get followed by search engines, so your site is not getting credit for links from this site and you're wasting your time. Third, I do check this site for changes at least once a day (usually more), and your links are taken down before any search engines really have a chance to see them.

Nevertheless, I resigned myself a long time ago to the old Internet adage that if you build it, they will attack. I guess that I should take it as a kind of backhanded compliment that my site is important enough now to be spammed! Anyway, to alleviate the issue, I've implemented the wiki spam filter that the Wikipedia uses. Thanks, Taxibot Yellow for pointing me to it!

If you have trouble editing or posting a legitimate article, please let me know by e-mailing me at tonyv@pcfreepress.com, and I apologize in advance.

E-Mail Snafu

First of all, I apologize for a mistake I made when I moved the site over to a different server. In the process, I forgot to set up the email forwarder which forwards e-mail to tonyv@pcfreepress.com to the web mail client I use. The end result is that any e-mail that has been sent to me in the past couple of weeks was sent out to the Shadow Shard somewhere, never to be seen again. I apologize profusely if you sent me something and I did not respond. Please send it again, and I assure you that it will be read by me now.

Happy New Year!

That said, I hope that everyone is having a wonderful 2006 so far. The Winter Event 2005 was a raving success in Paragon City, and most heroes (and villains!) seem to still be thoroughly enjoying their rocket packs. Don't forget, they only last for thirty days from the time you got them, not from the end of the event!

Game of the Year

How did NCsoft start off the new year? How about by winning Game of the Year from MMORPG.com!

Winter Events Continue!

Last week, we got a new toy and a badge. Today begins Lord Recluse's Operation Scrooge and Miss Liberty's Operation Holiday Cheer to counter his nefarious plans. Along with the festivities comes another accolade and a special new look for the heroes and villains of Paragon City and the Rogue Isles! See all of the updates in the Winter Event 2005 article.
