Global Chat Handles
Overview
A Global Chat Handle is a name that each account is given. All Chat Handles begin with @ and then the handle name. (ie: @example). A person's Chat Handle will be displayed on all of their Global Friends' lists.
Once a Chat Handle has been assigned to a person's account, it can only be changed once. The only exception to this was in summer of 2006, when a sort of Chat Handle "respec" was given. Players were able to change their Chat Handle even if they had once changed it previously.
How Chat Handles are Used
Chat Handles can be used to send tells to players on different servers, or instead of their character (ie: if their villain is set to ignore hero tells, they can recieve Global tells even from a hero). Any global tells sent while a player is offline will be received the next time someone logs in on that account. There is a limit to how many global tells can be sent to one person by any amount of people.
How Chat Handles are Decided
When Chat Handles first came out, people had to register a name for their desired handle. However, when a new account is created, the Chat Handle is made the same name as the very first character created on that account.
Known Glitches
Chat handles have been a bit unstable since the "Handle Respec". Some people have experienced the following:
- The account's handle is chosen, but later their handle changes to that of an alternate character and the option to change their handle is considered used.
- People have changed their handle, but it later changed back to the previous.
