The event ran from October 22nd through November 4th. [1]
Overview
The Halloween Event for 2007 expanded on previous Halloweens. In addition to Trick or Treating for Event Salvage and enemy defeat badges, "Classic Costume" temporary powers were added to the treats. As with the 2006 event, the Croatoa Giant Monsters Eochai and Jack in Irons spawned throughout the game (including the City of Villains zones) and awarded their own special Halloween badges.
The event ran in all zones in the game except Faultline, Rikti War Zone, Recluse's Victory, The Hive, The Abyss, Cascade Archipelago, The Chantry, and The Storm Palace.
Eternal Night
During the event, the entire game is locked in nighttime mode. This is not just a visual effect. All aspects of the game that depend on a day/night cycle are locked to the night side during the event. Enemies that only spawn at night spawn continuously during the event. Banisher, The Slayer, and Haunted badges (Hero side) and Pirate and Spectral badges (Villain side) are examples of badges for which hunting will be much easier during the event.
Note that some zones, such as The Hive, are unaffected by Eternal Night.
Trick or Treat
- Main article: Trick or Treat
During this event, players were be able to 'Trick or Treat' by knocking (that is, 'clicking') on mission doors in the various zones. If a door was successfully knocked, then either a treat was awarded in the form of inspirations, costume salvage, or classic costumes, or else a trick was pulled, which spawned Halloween-specific enemies from the clicked door.
Giant Monsters
- Main article: Giant Monsters
During the event, the entire game was locked in nighttime mode. The Giant Monsters from Croatoa, Eochai and Jack in Irons spawned in most zones (including the City of Villains zones), awarding Halloween-specific badges for their defeat. When one GM was defeated in a zone, another spawned in the same zone soon after.
Badges
- Main article: Halloween Badges
There were badges for defeating the Giant Monsters and their Unseelie companions, for defeating the enemies that spawned as Trick or Treat 'tricks', and for collecting "Classic Costume" Temporary Powers.
Notes
- All Inspiration treats were "tier 3" (large).
- There were reports of rare, obsolete Inspirations (such as Iron Will) being dropped as treats. However, this may have been on the testing server.
- Testing for this event began on Tuesday September 18th and ran from 3pm to 7pm Eastern. Second testing set was on Monday September 24th and ran from 3pm to an unknown time.
