Character History

Team Role

Behind the Scenes

Concept

Delchara is the name given to my Human Paladin in World of Warcraft (This is also reflected in the character's real name - she is a member of a cadet line of the Royal Family of Lordaeron). I had toyed with the idea of porting over a character or two previously, but never really found something that would fit. And, I still haven't - the character designs I liked in World of Warcraft are defined too widely for clean conversions.

The costume options for the new Shield Defense powerset caught my attention, however - I would tweak the character's powers somewhat, and I could make it work using the Energy Shield costume option. Her connection to the Holy Light would change somewhat, negating it's ability to heal others, but instead reinforcing her ability to defend and attack. Ultimately, the Fantasy Sword will be replaced by a Talsorian Broadsword (so the sword is composed of light as well as the shield).

Design Notes

The intended path for Delchara to follow is Broadsword/Shield Defense, with Flight and Fitness powers being selected. For the Epic Power Pool, Body Mastery will be used, as it's the best fit for the character (Laser Beam Eyes will be skipped, as it goes completely against concept). Just pretend the Energy Torrent is White or Gold, OK?

City of Heroes Design

Mutants and Masterminds

For the Mutants and Masterminds incarnation of Delchara, I did some mix-and-match between the two sources. I restored the Healing ability of the Holy Light, and enhanced it's ability to protect the character. As a Knight of the Silver Hand, Delchara can perform Priestly duties, including rituals. The original Delchara was also an engineer, which is where the inventor feat comes from, as well as the support skills. Due to the nature of Azeroth's technology, she can craft Mechanical devices only.

The Paladin Charger has been restored - it's a 45-point minion that can be summoned. The Shield of Faith manifests as a brightly glowing shield, and it increases her defense rating, saves and Charisma. The Wings of Faith was inspired by the Golden Wings that Paladins gain when using Avenging Wrath.

Feat selection focused more on the buffing aspect of the Warcraft Paladin - The Luck feat provides additional Hero Points, which can be spent on Leadership (Removing some adverse conditions from an ally), Inspiration (giving a number of allies equal to charisma bonus a bonus to attacks, skill checks and saves for a round) and Ultimate Effort and Beginners Luck (In it's guise of Divine Guidance - Ultimate Effort means I can declare a 20 when attacking with Blades of Light, Beginners Luck lets me add 5 ranks to a skill with 4 or less ranks)

HSield of Faith can be used while the Charger has been summoned (There are enough points in the array to have them together), allowing for the enhanced Defence and Charisma to be available during a cavalry charge, for example. Wings of Faith can also be active with the Charger (But that would be pointless). Blade of Light is kept separate from the array for this reason.

Finally, in keeping with the Warcraft Paladin tradition of not using Ranged Weapons, her attack bonus is mostly comprised of Melee bonuses - with improved accuracy from the Blade of Light. Also, the Toughness save is +2 from Constitution, +3 from the Plate Mail (When worn) and +5 from Defensive Roll (And is lost when flatfooted or restrained).
