Dr. Cheng is a contact located in Independence Port in the Bell Point neighborhood. His coordinates are (-1,835, 3, -4,432). His primary story arc is the Wheel of Destruction story arc.

Overview

Mystic

No one knows Dr. Cheng's first name, or even his real name. Like all wise mystics, he knows that names have power, and so he is careful to hide his. There has been a Dr. Cheng living in Paragon City since the 1840's, and, as far as anyone can tell, this is the same man. He neither confirms nor denies his reputed age. Dr. Cheng wiles away the hours of the day in local restaurants and teahouses, dispensing wisdom, advice, and aid to any who ask it of him. He is known to be a powerful magician who specializes in dealing with malevolent spirits, ghosts, and demons. Since the Rikti War, Dr. Cheng has become closely involved with the city's heroes, offering them help in their ceaseless pursuit of justice. He is particularly interested in the Banished Pantheon and the Circle of Thorns.

Introduction

I can sense great potential within you. Do no falter from the path you have chosen, difficult though it may be.

Mission 1

Briefing

In the wake of the Rikti War, there's been a resurgence of all kinds of mysticism. This has helped in some cases, even providing the city with new hope. But it has also caused a great deal of trouble. One new cult calls itself the Banished Pantheon. They have some sort of dark power; they can animate the dead and call spirits from beyond the grave! A reporter named Edith Frasier was investigating them, but now she's gone missing. Please find Edith Frasier as soon as possible.

Mission Acceptance

The creatures we have seen the most frequently have been dubbed Husks; they seem to be made from the animated bodies of the dead.

Clue: Edith Frasier's Story

When you rescued Edith Frasier, she said:

'I've seen a lot of horrible things since I started this investigation. This Banished Pantheon cult, they're inhuman! They worship some kind of lost god-like beings, horrible prehistoric entities that feed on pain. Their chief god is Lughebu, who demands that they learn about all beings of power. Here, take this idol I discovered. I have a feeling there's some sort of dark magic about it.

Temporary Power: Idol of Lughebu

When you rescued Suzanne Trent, she gave you this idol she found in the Pantheon's lair. While carrying it, you have the ability to drain the life from nearby foes, increasing your own Hit Points. The idol must be returned to the MAGI vault within 3 real days.

Debriefing

According to Edith Frasier, the Banished Pantheon is investigating all beings of power. I must say, that phrase has an ominous ring to it. Depending on the definition, it could include heroes like yourself.

Mission 2

Briefing

Have you ever been over the Striga Isle? There's a woman there named Stephanie Peebles who needs our help. She's got all she can do trying to hold Port Noble together against the onslaught of the Council. Will you take this package over to Stephanie? I'd appreciate it if you didn't look inside.

Mission Acceptance

The council managed to entrench itself on Striga Isle but good. If you can give Stephanie any assistance against them, I'm sure she'll be grateful. Of course, I hope you won't forget about your old friends here in Paragon City. We'll always be grateful for your help too.

Mission 3b

Briefing Security Chief

I need you to confront the Tsoo and the Warriors. Here are some basics about the area. If I were you, I'd look for the Tsoo in Helen Point of New Sparta. New Thebes and New Troy are typical Warrior hangouts.

Clue: Talos Island briefing

During the 1950's, the titanic hero Talos fought to save the city from a horrid beast called the Chimera. Talos wrestled the protean creature into the deepest waters of the bay, and their struggles somehow set off a volcano in the waters. Talos was killed, and the island created by the lava flow was named after him. Recently, a couple of gangs have been squaring off for Talos Island turf: the Warriors and the Tsoo. The Warriors have a fixation with gladiators; they carry swords and are often superb soldiers. THe Tsoo seem to be a gang with some magical might behind them.

  • Defeat 10 Tsoo and 10 Warriors

Mission 4

Briefing

There's been a break-in at the Paragon City Museum of History. The thieves made off with a large portion of the exhibit on the Spanish conquest of the new world. The centerpiece of the collection was the Armadura del Sol, a set of conquistador's armor said to be enchanted with the power of the sun. It has no magical powers now, but it's said that a mage could learn much from studying the armor. For this reason, I suspect the Circle of Thorns are behind the theft. Will you recover the armor from the Circle?

Mission Acceptance

The Armadura del Sol is composed of six pieces. You'll have to find and recover all of them to make sure the Circle's mystics can learn nothing from it.

Clue: Armadura del Sol

This ancient conquistador's armor is said to contain the power of the sun itself. Though its magic has long since faded, it was once rumored to give its wearer the power to destroy an army.

Debriefing

Recovering the Armadura del Sol will have ramifications far beyond these city walls. You did the world a service today. The Armadura del Sol was said to have once been powerful enough to level a city. If the Circle truly understood its power, they must be a more fearsome foe that we had guessed!

Mission 5

Briefing

Looks like the Warriors are at it again. They've broken into the warehouse where the museum was storing next month's feature exhibit. Whatever they're looking for, we need to keep it out of their hands. Please go stop the Warriors from stealing the museum's artifacts.

Mission Acceptance

I am not sure how long they will be there, so move as quickly as you can.

Clue: Piece of the Wheel of Destruction

This oddly shaped chunk of stone looks like it might be a part of a wheel or a disk. There are strange runes covering its surface.

Debriefing

The Warriors said this was a piece of the Wheel of Destruction? Interesting. I wonder how many other pieces there are.

Mission 6

Briefing

One of my heroes found this broken piece of stone while he was stopping a Banished Pantheon plot. It looks familiiar, and I need to find out more about it. Can you take the artifact piece to Azuria? I'd really like to have her opinion.

Mission Acceptance

My instincts tell me that this thing is important. Watch out for trouble.

This stone wedge looks like it might be a part of a wheel or a disk. It is covered with strange runes.

Where did you find this? It appears to be one of the pieces of the Wheel of Destruction! You are meant to keep this. Do not question me; many villains in Paragon City would kill to have the fully assembled Wheel of Destruction.

Debriefing

If Azuria said you are meant to hold onto it, then that is what you should do. She is never wrong about things like that.

From the looks of it, there are at least two more pieces of this Wheel of Destruction. It is likely the Banished Pantheon will be searching for these pieces as well. This marking upon it is the symbol of Kali.

Clue: The Wheel Begins

It all began when you encountered two broken pieces of stone. Each was marked with cryptic runes, and it seemed clear that the two pieces were once one. According to Azuria, they were parts of the Wheel of Destruction, an artifact infused with deadly power.

Mission 7

Briefing

I just found out why the Tsoo tried to steal that piece of the Wheel of Destruction from you. They already have one of the other pieces! We need to get that relic fragment back from the Tsoo.

We both know they won't give it up without a fight.

This rod bears the symbol of Kali, the Black Madness. It is undoubtedly the linchpin of the Wheel of Destruction.

Mission 8

Briefing

After calling around, I found another piece of the Wheel of Destruction. The CEO of Vorhight Industries is using it as a conversation piece in his office. I told him of its origin, and now he can't wait to get it out of his hands. I just need you to run over to the office and collect the piece of the Wheel of Destruction.

Mission Acceptance

If the Banished Pantheon caught wind of this, there's no doubt they'll be after that piece too.

Clue: Piece of the Wheel of Destruction

This small, cylindrical piece of metal looks like it might fit between the two pieces of stone you have. Stamped into its side is the symbol of Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction.

Debriefing

Thanks for keeping that piece of the Wheel of Destruction out of the Pantheon's hands. Yes, I can see how it fits with the other pieces you found. We are close to completing the entire Wheel of Destruction.

Clue: The Wheel Turns

Disturbed by the awesome power of the Wheel, your contact did some research and located two more pieces. One was in the possession of the Tsoo; the other was being used as office decor by a wealthy executive. You rescued both pieces, after lengthy battles with the Tsoo and the Banished Pantheon.

Mission 9

Briefing

Thanks to your hard work, we now have all four pieces of the Wheel of Destruction. I'd like you to take the pieces to Azuria. She can have the Wheel of Destruction analyzed and assembled.

Mission Acceptance

The pantheon may well make a last ditch attempt to get all the pieces.

I just got a call from MAGI's Divinations group. The Banished Pantheon broke into their vault and stole those artifact pieces you collected! According to the seers, the Pantheon plans to perform a ritual to empower and assemble the Wheel of Destruction. You have to stop the ritual!

I have MAGI scrying for the current location of the Wheel of Destruction.

Clude: The Wheel Turns

You took the pieces to Azuria for safekeeping and analysis, but the Banished Pantheon broke into the MAGI vault and made off with them.

Mission 11

Briefing

We have to recover those relic pieces the Banished Pantheon stole from MAGI. Otherwise, they'll assemble the Wheel of Destruction and empower it!

MAGI's seers have pinpointed the location where the Pantheon is trying to empower the pieces, under the direction of a cultist called Archos. I'm counting on you to prevent the Banished Pantheon from completing this ritual. You only have 90 minutes to stop the ritual.

Mission Acceptance

According to my sources, the ritual is taking place in the old Shady Pines Graveyard. I've called for an emergency force field to lock the situation down until you arrive. The Pantheon may have already empowered the pieces of the Wheel of Destruction, but the assembly should take a while. To stop them, all you need to do is find one piece of the Wheel of Destruction.

This wedge stone now glows with an eerie, purple light.

This large chunk of stone now bears the glowing, purple outline of a heart. It is painful to look at for more than a few seconds.

The metal cylinder you found has now turned to a dark rust color. It looks like dried blood and is hot to the touch.

The linchpin is now very hot. It has darkened in color and hums faintly in your hand.

This metal rod has been empowered by the Banished Pantheon. While carrying it, you can summan a Sword of Flame.

This broken piece of an ancient artifact has been empowered by the Banished Pantheon. While carrying it, you can scorch your enemies with your hands.

Temporary Power: Empowered Piece of the Wheel

This broken piece of an ancient artifact has been empowered by the Banished Pantheon. While carrying it, you have the power to launch a torrent of flames at your opponents.

Temporary Power: Empowered Linchpin of the Wheel

The linchpin of the Wheel of Destruction has been empowered by the Banished Pantheon. While carrying it, you can summon a cloak of flames to protect you from harm. While active, you take less damage from Smashing, Lethal, Energy, and Negative Energy attacks.

Mission 12

Briefing

A large number of pre-cognitives have been reporting visions of a nightmarish battle beneath the streets of the city. In these visions, the Banished Pantheon cultists battle the Circle of Thorns for control of some sort of mystic vortices that trap wandering spirits. And in these visions, you appear as well. Are you willing to face this vision and stop both of these groups of mystic madmen?

Mission Acceptance

I don't know the purpose of that vortex, but I have been told that you must close it.

You stopped a ware between the Banished Pantheon and the Circle of Thorns.

Debriefing

The Circle of Thorns and the Banished Pantheon are nightmares enough on their own; I'm impressed by your ability to battle their forces together. From what you heard, it seems that the Circle may have been trapping the spirits of the dead, then extracting information from them. Perhaps the Pantheon sought those same trapped spirits to slake their hungers.

Mission 13

Briefing

Professor Black from Paragon University recently took an advanced class of geology students spelunking in the caves under the city. It's kind of a tradition for him, but this was the first time he's taken a class down since the Rikti War. According to the dean, that class hasn't yet reported back. Somebody's got to find that missing class. You only have 75 minutes to find the students.

When you rescued Professor Black, he said:

'It was most estraordinary! We had found what looked to be some sort of earlier excavation. It was incredible. The huge caverns! The most amazing rock formations! There was a strange stone that looked as though it were some sort of petrified ice. We'd just located some sort of man-made stone work, when we were suddently surrounded by those robed figures! It's a good thing you came along when you did!'

Debriefing

I wonder why the Circle attacked that class? Perhaps they were close to finding something the Circle didn't want anyone to know about? Regardless, the Professor and his students are safe. They have you to thank for that.
