Information

SERAPH Scientist

Aaron Thiery is one of the top scientists for SERAPH. He has worked his way up as a lowly lab assistant to one of the premier scientists in the organization.

Some members of SERAPH question some of Thiery's methods, and he tends to be somewhat anti-social, but he always seems to get the job done. It's unknown why exactly he has been sent out to deal with the situation in Argosy.

Initial Contact

Hello, Character. I am Aaron Thiery, a scientist in the illustrious group known as SERAPH.

Habashy has informed me of your work to push back the chaos in Atlas. I have some information that may prove particularly useful for you.

As this is going to be something that is more important than my previous experiments, I have left my labs to work with you 'in the field', as they say. Shall we get to work?

Greeting

  • The city will not save itself. It will be done by the likes of you and I.
  • There is much to do, Character. We must continue our progress.

Arachnos Kill On Sight Order

You've been told by agents of the FBSA that Arachnos has received orders to attack and kill you on sight, unless you do something to 'prove your worth' to them. This was all due to your attack on an Arbiter Mesten, who was leading the Arachnos invasion against Atlas Park. This was the very end of an experience you call...

Reason to Fight

It all began when you met a man named Aaron Thiery. He was a scientist working with SERAPH who, at first, proposed that he knew how to prevent Arachnos from attacking Atlas Park. He directed you to stop a gathering of Hellions in Atlas Park, but you found yourself surrounded by soldiers of Arachnos when you arrived; Arachnos had already begun their invasion plans! The rest of Atlas had become stabilized, thanks to your efforts. This meant that Arachnos was forced to fortify within Argosy Industrial.

You and Aaron Thiery worked together to try to push back the Arachnos operatives by attacking their commanders and pylons. With the pylons destroyed, you received a message from Matthew Habashy, who said that the destruction of the pylons allowed the FBSA to get a track on their main base. He believed that was where his wife, Dana Habashy, was being held, but said that it was supposedly an immense amount of security. Habashy informed you that he would go in first to cause a distraction, which would allow you to get in there and save everyone. Before you could say anything, the feed was cut.

You wasted no time and went to assault the main Arachnos base. You were able to save Matthew Habashy, his wife, and the remaining hostages from Galaxy City, and discovered something terrible: Aaron Thiery was working with Arachnos and was in the base at this moment! You confronted Thiery, who revealed that he was not, as you would have believed, part of Arachnos. The truth was that he did all this to wake up the heroes of Paragon, to force them into action; even if it meant committing horrible crimes, Thiery believed that now the people of Paragon were safer. After explaining himself, Thiery requested that you kill him, as he had done too many horrible acts to deserve to live. At this point, it was up to you; did you kill Aaron Thiery, or arrest him to spend the rest of his days in the Zig?

After you dealt with Thiery, Arbiter Mesten arrived to try to salvage the remains of the operation. You fought and defeated the Arbiter, cutting the head off of the supposed Arachnos 'dragon'. The remaining Arachnos troops were either defeated by the remaining heroes of Paragon or retreated.

Matthew Habashy thanked you for helping to reunite not only him and his wife, but also the countless other survivors of Galaxy City with their loved ones. You saved the people of Atlas Park from the forces of Arachnos, gave those who were doubtful something to believe in once again, and showed the less-motivated heroes that there is still a reason to fight, a reason to take a stand and use your powers to help those who cannot help themselves.

Part One: The Tide

Briefing

Matthew Habashy has informed me about what you know, which is that Arachnos has been trying to destabilize the area of Atlas. An interesting idea, to say the least, attacking the heart of a city of heroes.

I have been keeping my eye on peculiar events. I believe I know where we may be able to strike to prevent Arachnos from attaining its goal of total dominion over Atlas Park.

  • What do you know?

There has been a large gathering of Hellions in the northern part of Argosy Industrial. The area was once the center of industrial work in Paragon, but that honor has since gone to Independence Port. The mostly empty warehouses there are now being used by the Hellions.

I've deduced that it's highly possible the Hellions are setting the stage for Arachnos to use those warehouses for some sort of invasion.

I would suggest a full out attack on the Hellions to prevent this from happening.

Unnecessary Solicitation

I would hurry, if I were you. The Hellions will not wait for us to act.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Fight off the Hellions in Argosy Industrial
    • Defeat 15 Hellions

Icon clue generic.png
The Arachnos Invasion
It seems you and Aaron Thiery were too late to stop Arachnos! They've already gained a foothold within Argosy Industrial and are trying to push forward!

Mission Objective(s)

  • Defeat the Arachnos invaders!
    • Defeat 15 Arachnos

You've fought some of Arachnos, but there's still more to go before they're pushed out of Atlas!

Enemies

Debriefing

This is a very intriguing turn of events, Character. It seems my calculations were off about the Arachnos incursion.

I had believed your efforts in Atlas would deter them, but it seems it only served to fuel their anger to begin their invasion. Very curious.

I believe this will be the time where your true worth will be put to the test. Do you believe that you have the abilities to help push back the Arachnos attack?

Part Two: Commander

Briefing

Arachnos will not stop until they've taken over all of Atlas. The situation is somewhat dire, you could say.

Most of the Freedom Phalanx are currently unable to help fight, whether it is due to the issues in Galaxy City or with threats by the Praetorians.

The fate of Atlas is left in the hands of heroes such as yourself. Our goal will have to be to find where the main base of Arachnos is and strike at it.

  • We'll have to go after their leaders, then.

Correct. In order to find out where they are staging their attack from, we must strike down their higher ranking officials - their commanders.

I would suggest you go out and take the fight to them. It is possible that we may find information on them regarding the location of their main headquarters, or, at the very least, a method in which they are communicating to each other.

Unnecessary Solicitation

More heroes are arriving to help, but there are many still who are too scared to fight Arachnos.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Find and defeat Arachnos Commanders
    • Defeat 5 Wolf Spider Commander

You've pushed back some of the Arachnos Commanders, only to discover that they are planning to level part of Argosy with explosives!

Icon clue generic.png
Hidden Explosives
You weren't able to find out how Arachnos is communicating with each other, but you did find out that they've planted several explosive devices in the nearby area of Argosy. You need to find those devices and disarm them!

Mission Objective(s)

  • Disarm the hidden Arachnos explosives!
    • Find 3 more hidden explosives!

You've disarmed the explosives!

Enemies

Debriefing

It is a good thing you've stopped the bombing plot, Character. It seems, though, we are no further to finding out where the Arachnos base is.

There are a few heroes who have answered the call to help fight off Arachnos, but there are still many who have refused to. Many believe they are not 'good' enough to make a difference.

It is unreasonable, really, to believe that just because you have super abilities that you are a super hero. And because of that, we find ourselves in our current situation. Let us see what you can do to get us out of it.

Part Three: Chance to Make Things Different

Briefing

Did you, by chance, see large Arachnos Pylons? I've received some data from Matthew Habashy that these pylons are being used as a method of communication.

Arachnos sends their data through numerous pylons in order to hide exactly where their data center is located.

It is reasonable, then, to assume that if enough of these pylons are destroyed, we would be able to predict with greater accuracy where the main Arachnos base is.

  • How many of these need to be destroyed?

According to my predictions, I would say three. There are several other heroes working on tracking down the location, as well as taking down the pylons. But you, Character, are at the forefront of it.

I will let Matthew Habashy know to contact me when the scientists at SERAPH and the agents in the FBSA have pin-pointed the location of the Arachnos base.

Unnecessary Solicitation

There are still too many pylons up for us to accurately predict where their base is hidden.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Destroy Arachnos Pylons
    • Defeat 3 Arachnos Pylon

You destroyed the pylons and received an alarming message from Matthew Habashy!

Icon clue generic.png
Transmission from Matthew Habashy
With the last pylon destroyed, you almost instantly receive a message from Matthew Habashy. He sounds as if he is running.

'Character! Matthew here! I know I was supposed to message Thiery, but, well, I never really liked that guy. LISTEN, we've got a feed on where the base is. It's the same one where they're keeping my wife!

They said it has a ton of security, too much for one person to overcome. Which is why I'm going in there first! They'll be too preoccupied in figuring out what to do with a lone FBSA agent to notice you breaking down the doors!

This is my chance, Character, my chance to make things right and to save my wife! Just... well, if I die, make sure you save her!

Enemies

V badge ArachnosBadge.png Arachnos

Debriefing

Hrm. This is... unexpected. Who would have thought that a normal man like Matthew Habashy would run off to do something so brave? I definitely did not believe it would happen.

Yes, it is no surprise the Arachnos base would be heavily fortified. It is their main method of conducting this invasion. I suppose it also makes sense for them to keep their prisoners there as well.

Habashy's plan could just work. Arachnos would be pleased to get their hands on an FBSA agent, enough that they would lower their guard, focusing on bringing him in. That would be the time for you to strike.

Finale: One Man's Savior, One City's Hero

Briefing

I've received the exact location of where the Arachnos base is. The FBSA has confirmed Matthew Habashy has gone MIA.

I can only assume that he is currently within the bowels of the base.

I would hurry, if I were you. Habashy plans on using his position in the FBSA as leverage, hoping they will keep him alive long enough for you to arrive. But I do not believe that will work.

  • What? Why will that not work?

Arachnos already has an agent on the inside. It is how they were able to get into Atlas Park so easy.

It is also how they knew about the meteor strike in Galaxy City. Arachnos was in Galaxy mere minutes after the meteors hit. That is no coincidence, Character, and Arachnos is not that well-organized that they could pull it off themselves.

Someone within one of the organizations is helping them, and that is why Matthew Habashy will die. If you do not hurry, that is.

Unnecessary Solicitation

There is little time to talk, Character.

Mission Objective(s)

Map: ARACHNOS_BASE

You travelled through numerous corridors in this warehouse before ending up within this Arachnos base, embedded deep beneath the streets of Paragon City.

  • Save Matthew Habashy and Atlas from Arachnos!
    • Save Matthew Habashy and the prisoners

Briefing

Hey... Character... man... you're sure a sight... for sore eyes. And boy... are my eyes sore... and my chest... my legs... basically... sort of everything... is hurting really bad...

Looks like... the plan worked out... pretty well, huh?

  • Matthew, that was crazy! You could've been killed, what were you thinking?
Had to do it... Character... I couldn't get the image of my wife's face... when she and I split in Galaxy... I wanted to do something... something to save her...
As soon as I saw... that we had her location... I didn't care if I died or not... I had to at least... at least try to save her... and to try to help you save everyone...
It's... it's not over yet though... the mole... it was... it was Aaron Thiery all along...!
  • You did a brave thing, Matthew. Not a lot of people would've tried that.
Hah... thanks... Character... looks like we're both on the same page with this... thing... huh...?
I think I... earned some major... points with the wife... for doing this... ha... haha... Urgh...
There's no time... to rest now... I'll... be fine... you've got to go after the mole. It's... it's Aaron Thiery...! He betrayed us all... he... he was the one helping Arachnos all this time...!
  • Thiery? He was the one who told me about the mole!
I don't know... What he's up to... why he betrayed us. He even told Arachnos... that you wouldn't be coming. It's like... he wants you to succeed or something... but... he told Arachnos all about our weaknesses... when we'd be vulnerable... he even... told them to hold off on my execution for a few more minutes... and it was just... in time... for you to get here...
You've got... you've got to find him, Character... find out what... what he's up to...!
  • I'll handle this, don't worry.

Mission Objective(s)

  • Save Matthew Habashy and Atlas from Arachnos!
    • Confront Aaron Thiery

You've saved Matthew Habashy and halted the Arachnos occupation of Atlas Park!

Aaron Thiery

Briefing

Character. I assume you saved Habashy, given that you're here now. I also assume that he told you that he saw me.

I asked them to spare Habashy's life. While a coward for most of his life, Habashy took a stand, due to the example you set for him. And so, I decided to have his life intertwined with your choice. Had you decided not to show up or were killed, then he too would have been killed.

In a few moments, the commander in charge will show up to fight you. You will soundly defeat him, bringing an end to all of this, returning Atlas to its former peace.

  • Why? Why did you do all of this, Thiery?

The heroes in this city became too complacent, Character. Too many left crimes unanswered, believing it was 'beneath' them. Too many simply went about living their lives as if they were normal, when they were not, when they had responsibilities to the people.

The heroes of this city needed to be shaken back awake, to realize their true role in this life. The destruction of Galaxy helped with this, but still, heroes in Atlas continued in their complacency. There needed to be a strike to the heart. And so, here we are.

  • You had no right to do that, to do all of this!
No, I had no right to do this. But I did it anyway. In dire times, someone must make a choice and do what is wrong in order for others to take a stand and do what is right.
Heroes will remember, for some time, that they must always be vigilant. That no part of the city is completely safe. They will stand and protect others, putting their own petty views or laziness behind them.
And you yourself have become a product of this. If it were not for the destruction of Galaxy, for the Arachnos intervention, would you have been stirred to action? To use your abilities for the good of mankind?
  • And so you think you're the good guy by joining Arachnos?
I do not believe I am the good guy in this situation. Arachnos was a means to an end, a method to help wake up the heroes of this city, to remind them of their true calling.
  • I would've helped regardless of the situation!
Perhaps, Character, that is what makes you stand out from the others.
But many started out just like you, I am sure; eyes full of wonder, your heart bursting with the desire to save the city, the state, the country, the world. But how many times can you do this? Once? Twice?
It will eventually wear down on you, and you will give in to apathy, like so many others before you. And then, someone like myself will come along and help reawaken you.
I have, Character, one final request for you.
  • You? Have a request for -me-?
Kill me.
What I have done is unforgivable. I do not deserve to live in the same world as these people, not after what I've helped trigger. It is not true justice if I survive and all the innocent die.
Deliver the final call of justice to me and seal your role as a hero, Character.
  • You brought this upon yourself! (Kill Thiery)
You strike down Thiery, ending his life!
  • (Leave)
  • No. You'll pay for your crimes like all the others. (Arrest Thiery)
You arrest Thiery, ensuring that he'll pay for all the crimes he has committed.
  • (Leave)

Assaulting an Arbiter
You defeated Arbiter Mesten, the man who was leading the attack. As he fell, he threatened you with these words...

'Arbiters are the hand... the will of Lord Recluse! An attack on an Arbiter is an attack on Lord Recluse himself! You will not live long enough to regret what you've done today!'

EdLetter.png Editor's Note:

If you killed Aaron Thiery...

Looks like everything worked out okay, huh, Character?

Atlas Park is safe from Arachnos, I'm alive, and I just might've saved my marriage by doing something that I think would classify as, 'stupidly brave'.

I'm happy that Aaron Thiery is going to spend a very long time rotting in the darkest part of the Zig. I might even go visit him, just to spite him.

What happened with Aaron Thiery?

  • I killed him. He caused too much pain to be left alive.
Oh. Well... that's really taking things into your own hands.
I can't really blame you, though. Aaron used all of us, he acted like he was our friend and then acted against us the entire time. Honestly, I think you were right in that, Character.
But hey, let's try to keep this cheery! The day's saved, the FBSA is covering my hospital bill, and my wife is willing to take me back.
What are you going to do now?
  • Arachnos killed him.
Hrmph, good riddance, I say. The guy used all of us for his own ends. I just wish I could've been there when they took him out.
Or at least, asked him how he could've done everything that he did.
But hey, let's try to keep this cheery! The day's saved, the FBSA is covering my hospital bill, and my wife is willing to take me back.
What are you going to do now?
  • Continue to fight crime. The fight isn't over yet.
You're right, Character, that I have no doubt of.
Even now, Kings Row could probably use your help.
But hey, keep in touch, alright? I'd like to think we've sort of become friends in all of this. Hopefully you won't have to come bail me out of any more problems!
  • I think I'll finally -relax-. Even if it's not for very long.
Hah! I bet it won't be for too long, knowing how things go around here.
But relaxing just for a few minutes isn't necessarily a bad thing, makes you appreciate the quieter moments, eh?
Whatever you do, just make sure to keep in touch, alright? I'd like to think that we're friends now, what with you helping me to save my marriage and all.
  • I'm sure something will come up. I didn't exactly plan to save Atlas Park.
That's true, nobody really plans on being a hero, huh? Pretty wise words.
I get the feeling that you're going to be at the center of a lot of things to come, Character. You've got that aura around you.
But hey, just make sure to keep in touch, okay? We've both been through a lot together, I'd like to think we've become what people around here call friends. Heck, you helped save my marriage! But anyway, I'll let you go now. Take it easy, Character.
  • I'll keep in touch. Take care of yourself, Matthew.
