Jantje

Like countless others, the Rikti War threw the life of Jantje van der Scheel into disarray. Afterward, Jantje returned to Rhode Island and attempted to get his life back in order. But a band of Superadine-crazed Trolls mauled him and dragged him back to their tunnels.

Jantje suffered for months, a slave to the Trolls' brutish desires and their cavalier experiments with force-fed Dyne. The drug changed Jantje more than most, not only physically and mentally, but also activating a latent ability to manipulate bioenergy.

After the Hollowing, a renegade Troll, surprised to hear what was ordinarily a giant overmuscled engine of destruction plead for help instead of picking a fight, rescued him. Slowly, Jantje recovered somewhat, and decided to follow his benefactor's example — even taking archery lessons at the new university. His agenda is unclear, even to himself, but the drive to fight the good fight is undeniable.
