v  d  e

The deliberations over Arkanist’s innocence continue as Apex pleads the hero’s case among his fellow jurists. The continued arguing forces Janet Kindheart to again step up as mediator as Apex suggests the possibility of a mistrial because of the faulty evidence against Arkanist.

Meanwhile, War Witch and Horus return to the apartment and ask Sally about the phone calls she has been receiving, believing there could be a connection there with their mysterious stranger. Horus relays the events to Sally, who seems to let on that she knows more about the events than she’s willing to admit and reveals that she’s accepted a job at Crey’s corporate headquarters. War Witch retreats to the sanctity of her room to confer with her coven, complaining about the presence of Apex’s bothersome sister. She’s interrupted, however, by Horus who comes up with a lead in their case.

Back at the court house, the jury awaits word from the judge after delivering a vote to him. Janet takes Apex aside to tell him of her respect for him in being a hero who has no special powers. The bailiff returns finally, telling the heroes that they are not trying hard enough in their deliberations and gives them eight more hours under the watchful eye of a police drone.

Nearby, War Witch and Horus are back on the case and meet up with Eddie, Sir Arctic and Firehands who emerge from a warehouse after using a Vahz minion to open the door for them. Horus questions them about their teammate Namaste. Eddie tells our heroes that the stranger knew their secret identities and that Namaste is on the jury. Before they can continue their exchange of information, however, a group of Malta Operatives arrive on scene. The leader, identifying himself as The Messenger, tells them that they are to ensure that Apex sways the jury to convict Arkanist or run the risk of their secret identities being made public. The heroes decide instead to attack the operatives in a pitched battle, forcing the operatives to flee but leaving Eddie seriously wounded.

Back at the court house, the jury has voted 19 times with the same results while under the continued scrutiny of the PPD Drones, Apex receives another call from Horus. The drones, however, do not act since they cannot detect any power in the cell phone. Horus brings Apex up to date on their end of the case from the safety of the local hospital where Eddie is being treated for his wounds. However, when War Witch tries to tell Apex about the tracking spell that was being used, the phone goes dead. Apex informs the jury that an outside source is trying to influence the jury, and that those responsible have the ability to hijack the emergency medical teleporters.
