My first toon, first 50, and my main. At the time, naive as I was, I was looking more for a scranker, not knowing that Granite Armor severely slows recharge and lowers the damage of one's attacks. Also, I put hardly anything into his earlier Stone Armor powers, putting enhancements into his Stone Melee, and experimenting heavily with the Power Pools (I had SS+SJ, Combat and even Concealment(!) on this guy. Today, he is the first toon I work to receive all the Incarnate abilities as they come out. He has a LOT of IO sets, but is not "maxed out," as some people play the game. |
Scrappers and Stalkers

My first and main scrapper. Packs a heckuva punch, but I wish I would have picked Invulnerability as his secondary. At the time, I still new enough to the game that I wanted the scrapper to be survivable. I could actually see me re-rolling the character some time, but probably won't. When I had altitis, this toon was on every one of the original 11 servers, but with slight changes here and there, including an Invulnerability version. |

Could there be a better name for a toon?? ("SAY MY NAME!!"). I had to reroll this guy a couple times until I settled on his power sets. Originally he was Energy Blast, but learned quickly that knockback was not good for a team player. And blaster secondary powersets generally suck, as far as I'm concerned; Energy Manipulation (as you will see) is easily my favorite. This guy is a seriously powerful shooter, but if he gets aggro, he can be mincemeat fast. |

My second toon, originally drawn up on Victory server. I got her in the high 30s before I quit the game in mid-2005 for three months over protest of the massive nerfs being done in the game. When I heard Jack Emmert left the company, I came back and re-made her on Protector server, my first home. She had leveled fast on Victory, running with some incredibly awesome people whose names I regrettably forget. The concept of this healer isn't for her to heal the most hit points; but instead heal the most often and least expensive. That is, I put more into recharges and endurance reduction than in healing enhancements. So she can heal, heal, heal in rapid succession, never losing endurance as she goes. Regrettably, I chose Energy Blast for her secondary. It keeps the baddies off her, but you should never create knockback off the tank. If I would re-roll her (and I did, often, in my altitis days), I would give her Radiation Blast instead. Nonetheless, and despite putting all those enhancements on her healing powers, the few blast powers she has are super-strong, even for a defender. |
Controllers and Dominators

It took forever for me to find a controller set I could live with. This one is it, and she was not my first controller; but she is by far my favorite. I love rushing into combat, too, immobilizing groups and sending in the fire monkeys; but she is a total wuss and dies quickly if I don't immediately hide after pulling that stunt. I recently picked up an IO set that includes the ability to turn knockback into knockdown, and threw it into Bonfire; now that's a rush! |
Masterminds

My first villain, I had very high hopes for masterminds when CoV came out. Boy, was I disappointed. I got this character to level 41 and finally deleted him when I saw that even the villain "epic power pools" simply could not improve on a wretched archetype. The game has since significantly improved on them, but they are currently my least favorite type of character to play. And they are boring. After major improvements were made to masterminds, I re-rolled him, but only took him to 40 this time. Bots just bore me to sleep, doesn't even matter if I am on a hot-and-heavy strike force at the time. |
Special Toons: Sonjas
So player sionaraa and a couple other supergroup friends started this idea of creating the Sonjas, all defenders or controllers, all with Sonic defense, all science origin, all the exact same height and costumes, just different colors. The belief was that the sonic defenses we could put on each other, even at level 1, would make a band of us running around totally invincible. The only weakness in that idea is that we had extremely poor damage. The Sonjas were such fun to run around with, though, that we expanded to allow the other archetypes, and _then_ we had more fun.

Okay, _this_ was my first controller, and learned to hate her only when I got to the upper levels. As with any specials team that I ever grouped with, we eventually went off and did other things, so after the 30s, this character did a lot of soloing, and it was then that I realized that Gravity does really poor damage. You are the best at immobilizing and holding, but you can't hurt squat. I do love the character's name, though. |
Special Toons: Level-locked
One thing that altitis gives you is a lot of characters you don't ever _want_ to do anything with; but eventually I found a use for them: bank missions. Since it is very easy to out-level safeguard and mayhem missions, I took a set of my least favorite characters, and level-locked them so they could be used _just_ to run radio/newspaper missions and bank missions.

Well, what could be a better name for a toon that does nothing but run AP and KR safeguards? |
