Overview
The Halloween Event is a suite of gaming tasks and visuals that are reminiscent of the Halloween holiday season. This includes Trick or Treating, costumes, monsters, ghosts, witches, and horror movie cliches such as a Zombie Apocalypse.

The 2010 Event is scheduled:
*to start Thursday, October 21, 9 AM Pacific Time
*ends Sunday, October 31, 11:59 PM PT (in most other zones, early Monday morning, November 1).

New in 2010
* More temporary costume powers.

* The Event will run in Praetoria as well as the other cities.

* An NPC costume slot unlock contact, Acantha, in Praetoria.

* A special Halloween tip mission which can grant up to five new badges.

Whispered Rumor Tip Mission
*When a character goes Trick or Treating in a Temporary Costume (whether gained from a 'Treat' or a permanently bestowed one such as from attending a convention), there is a chance of a Halloween Tip Mission dropping from a 'Treat'.
**This Halloween Event Tip will drop even if you already have 3 Alignment Mission Tips already.
**Testing has indicated that you need to be Level 20+ and not in Praetoria to get this Tip. No official word whether that is working as intended.

*The Tip is entitled Whispered Rumor and has a jack-o'-lantern picture on it.

*The Halloween Tip Mission grants some minor rewards plus one of five badges:
;Secured
Deadly Apocalypse
:Main Article: Deadly Apocalypse
The Deadly Apocalypse is a type of zone invasion introduced in the Halloween Event of 2009. Haunting Banners representing iconic horrors appear in a zone and are protected by foes that embody that banner's horror. Players must attack the defenders and then the Banners and then finally a Giant Monster. Rewards include badges and a selection of temporary powers.

Eternal Night
During the event, the entire game is locked in nighttime mode. This is not just a visual effect. All aspects of the game that depend on a day/night cycle are locked to the night side during the event. Enemies that only spawn at night spawn continuously during the event. Banisher, The Slayer, and Haunted badges (Hero side) and Pirate and Spectral badges (Villain side) are examples of badges for which hunting will be much easier during the event.

Note that some zones, such as Cimerora, The Hive and The Abyss are unaffected by Eternal Night.

Zombie Apocalypse
:Main Article: Zombie Apocalypse
The Zombie Apocalypse is a zone event that uses the Rikti World Invasion engine; random zones throughout the game come under attack by zombies for periods of time as the sky turns red. A new enemy group, Zombies, appear during this event. There are badges for Zombie defeats and an unlockable costume piece, the Pumpkin Head.

Trick or Treat
:Main Article: Trick or Treat
During this event, players are be able to 'Trick or Treat' by knocking (that is, 'clicking') on mission doors in the various zones. Treats are rewards which include Temporary Powers (a throwable Rock and Costume Powers), Tier 1 inspirations, and Halloween Event Salvage (from defeating the spawned 'Tricks') which can be traded in for an extra costume slot. Tricks include spawns of special event enemies for which there are defeat badges.

Currently, You only get the costume temp powers when solo, although you get credit for the badge, even if they dont appear in your tray.

Giant Monsters
:Main Article: Giant Monsters

The Giant Monsters from Croatoa, Eochai and Jack in Irons spawn in most zones (including the City of Villains zones) along with the Unseelie spirits. There are Halloween-specific badges for their defeat (which are different than the badges for the defeat of the regular Croatoan Eochai and Jack Giant Monsters).

Rewards
Event Salvage & Extra Costume Slot
:Main Article: Trick or Treating

Special Event Salvage drops from defeating spawned 'Tricks' can be traded in for an extra Costume Slot.

Temporary Powers and Inspirations
:Main Article: Trick or Treating
:Main Article: Deadly Apocalypse

By Trick or Treating, you can collect the Rock and Costume Temporary Powers and also get Tier 1 inspiration drops. By participating in the Deadly Apocalypse, you can collect other Temporary Powers or a Tier 2 inspiration drop.

Badges & Costume Piece
:Main Article: Halloween Badges

There are badges for defeating the Giant Monsters and their Unseelie companions; for defeating the enemies that spawn as Trick or Treat 'tricks'; for collecting Temporary Costumes; for defeating the Zombies of the Zombie Apocalypse; and for defeating each of the Haunting Banners and the Greater Mystic Aspect (Giant Monster). One of the Zombie Apocalypse badges unlocks a Pumpkin Head costume piece.
It's not much, but the location of the Brickstown facility is the only lead we have. Maybe you can hack into the computers there and get a location on the countess.
You are quickly becoming one of the city's favorite groups.
All right, Task Force Name, I'm sending you to that Crey facility in Brickstown. Get in and get out as fast as you can. More data is the goal here. We want to know where the countess is and what she's doing; don't waste any time on the muscle she has working for her.
Note from Hopkins

You've kept this note from Countess Crey's faithful servant, Hopkins. It's a reminder of the time you spent:

Following Countess Crey

From the first grim words Manticore spoke, it was apparent that this would not be a standard job. After you pulled an informant named Drake out of a Crey facility, it became clear that Manticore was right. Countess Crey was walking in the shadows.

Using Drake's information, you shut down a Crey facility trying to merge Rikti technology with high-powered computer systems. A mysterious tip on a computer screen pointed you toward a possible encounter with the countess herself. The message's sender claimed to be Dr. Friedkin, a former Crey employee now consigned to life in a machine.

Friedkin's tip did lead you to the countess' location, but your quarry escaped.

With no good leads to work from, you took Manticore's advice and rousted some Crey agents. One of them divulged the location of another Crey facility.

You went to the facility, and it seemed that luck was on your side. You found another message from Dr. Friedkin.

But it was a trap. The countess had discovered that Friedkin was helping you, and the second message was nothing but Countess Crey's ruse. Despite the overwhelming forces she summoned to defeat you, you prevailed.

The countess then tried a different tactic. Her forces kidnapped City Councilman Birch and threatened to kill him unless you could save him in time. She hoped that you would fail, thus ruining your reputation, but you rescued the councilman in the nick of time.

But it wasn't over yet. It seemed Hopkins took your actions against Countess Crey as a personal affront. He put a test before you, and the reward was a battle with him.

Having passed Hopkins' test, you were guided to his location. In an epic battle, you defeated the countess' most trusted minion.

Ask why Reichsman is so powerful

I believe that Reichsman has kidnapped a number of his counterparts -- including Statesman -- and is somehow transferring a portion of their power to himself. This is making him incredibly powerful, as you've seen.

Right now, I don't believe that there's a hero -- or hero team -- that can stand up to him. If he continues unchecked, his invasion will succeed and Paragon City will be conquered by the 5th Column.

Ask how you can defeat Reichsman

Reichsman is enhancing himself with cross-dimensional energy. If you can somehow reinforce his connection to his home dimension, you should be able to 'ground' him and, in effect, short out much of his added power. Reichsman will still be very powerful, but I believe you and your companions will be able to defeat him.

We know the coordinates of Reichsman's home dimension. If you go through the portal and tap some energy sources, I should be able to use that energy to power a device that will create a stronger connection between Reichsman and his home. Here, this scanner will let you see the sources. When you find them, just plant one of these taps on each one. I'll need about five sources to power the 'grounding ray'.

You've saved Paragon City, Character! Reichsman may have slipped away like a dog with its tail between its legs, but you still managed to capture four very dangerous villains and stop the invasion. Not a bad day's work, Character. Not bad at all.

Strategies for defeating Reichsman

Unlike many MOBs, Reichsman cannot be pulled very far from his spawn point. If the team attempts to pull him into the tunnels, he will teleport back to his original location. The additional AVs spawned during the fight will not teleport back. This allows the team to focus on one AV at a time, rather than having to fight multiples at once.
Column Breaker

These plans for conquest remind you of the time when you saved Paragon City from the 5th Column in an adventure you call

The Return of the Reichsman

When a break in at City Hall lead you to a base that was rife with 5th Column activity, you knew something big was up. Your hunch was proved right when the 5th Column invaded Boomtown, so you headed there to shut them down. Though you defeated their generals and shut down the troop portals, a super-charged Reichsman arrived forcing you to retreat and find some way to defeat him.

Your investigations lead you to a 5th Column base where you recovered information that revealed Reichsman was an alternate version of Statesman, and was collecting other alternate versions of himself from which he could steal power, making him practically invincible. Working on the theory you could somehow "ground" this power out with the proper energy source, you went to Axis Earth where you tapped 5 energy sources.

You returned to your home and traveled to the 5th Column Base in Boomtown to confront Reichsman, only to find him in conference with four of the most powerful arch-villains around! You shattered his plans of an alliance of evil and captured the arch-villains, but Reichsman managed to slip away in the end. Somehow, you don't think you've seen the last of him.
The Defender tends to help his allies and attack his foes from a distance. The Defender excels at powers that assist friends, but can also hinder his enemies. The Defender is able to attack at range, however, the Defender is not built for hand to hand. He might be able to dodge a few attacks, but the Defender won't last for long.

Faction: Hero

The Defender's power sets are:

Primary: Buff/Debuff<br />
Secondary: Ranged

The Defender has Low Hit Points and Medium Damage.
Power Sets
Primary Power Sets
A Defender's primary power sets are designed specifically for buffing or debuffing. They are:

* Cold Domination (Issue 12)
* Dark Miasma
* Empathy
* Force Field
* Kinetics
* Radiation Emission
* Sonic Resonance
* Storm Summoning
* Trick Arrow

Secondary Power Sets
A Defender's secondary power sets are designed for ranged attacks. They are:

* Archery
* Dark Blast
* Electrical Blast
* Energy Blast
* Ice Blast (Issue 12)
* Psychic Blast
* Radiation Blast
* Sonic Attack

Ancillary Power Pools
* Dark Mastery
* Power Mastery
* Psychic Mastery
* Electricity Mastery

Inherent Power
* Vigilance
* In PvP, some debuffs from Defender primary powers are unaffected by the target's Resistances.

Strategies
The underlying principle behind Defender play is that of support. No single power of the Defender sets tends to pack a distinct punch on its own, because they're designed to improve the power of a team. What this means is that most Defender attack sets are designed to start with a large number of cumulative attacks.

This can be seen fairly evidently in Defender secondaries; most of them attack very quickly, and almost all Defender secondaries have a cumulative debuff effect of some variety. This means that a Defender's actual attacks can be stacked together very quickly, and their debuffing effects can be maximized. Therefore, the most potent powers of the Defender are usually at their finest because they can be stacked. Defender play, when solo, is very action-focused; you attack very quickly, and many of your buffs and debuffs recharge very quickly. This speed seems to be so that in a team, you can quickly transfer your attention around to different concerns.

As a noteworthy exception, Archery does not have a cumulative debuff effect, instead possessing a basic accuracy boost. In the past it was thought that Archery synergized with Trick Arrow, as it was believed attacks from the primary and secondary did not cause any issues regarding re-drawing the weapon. Before Issue 11, Developers weighed in on this discussion on the official forums to assure players that there was nothing that slowed down/quickened attacks because of weapon draw animations. During Issue 11, the animations for both Archery and Trick Arrows had their weapon draw times, as well as many of their 'arrow draw times', removed. Now, a player with either Archery or Trick Arrows will be faster than before (whether they draw their bow before attacking or not), and a player with both Archery and Trick Arrows will be even faster. The developer, Back Alley Brawler, encouraged people to see the change not as characters being slower if they didn't have both powersets (as each set is now much faster than before), but as a bonus if they did.

The unfortunate drawback is that Defenders rarely have much visible individual impact; because their powers are so powerful when cumulative, they tend to not have much immediate effect on their own. Their Powers are much better at making the entire team stronger. Defeating a higher conning boss or lieutenant while solo for most low-level Defenders can best be compared to pushing rope uphill. A group of defenders, each making the others more powerful is a true sight to behold, and can be much more powerful than many other teams. While the Defender is often very safe, with their debuffs and buffs, the exchange for this safety is speed in soloing.
Overview
Winter Lords are Giant Monsters that were unleashed upon Paragon City during the Winter Events of 2004, 2006, 2007 & 2008. In the 2004 event, they randomly spawned in each of the city zones, sometimes with as many as 5 at once roaming an area. In the later years, the Winter Lord may spawn when someone from a team of 5 or more people clicks on a Naughty present. They belong to the Winter Horde enemy group.

Description
Notes
* During the Winter Event 2004, the Winter Lord name became synonymous with power leveling because of the amount of experience teams could gain from taking down the monsters. It was very common for low level characters to advance very rapidly during the event. The way experience is given for Giant Monsters was changed shortly after.
